So I've seen an upcoming Naish SUP that I think will be exactly what I'd want in a board...it's called the Odysseus, 9'8 x 34 x 4.75 and 200L...I'm 6'2 and 110kgs with a lot of water time (ocean swimming, sailing etc), fair bit of SUP, and a little surf time in my younger days. I've been looking at a 9'6 Allwave, but think I may hold til I see these.

Looks perfect for me - not due out til Autumn 2014 and doesn't seem to be much info around about it - anyone got any further details?

Not a lot of info yet, I believe it will have channels on the bottom like the 10'10" Nalu

Looks cool for a fun kick around board, but can Naish really bring this board in at the listed 26 lbs? I would be absolutely amazed, especially at this price point.

They leave the docks tomorrow, so dealers should start getting them in the next few days

Hey Guys,

Super stoked to have the Odysseus land in our warehouse tomorrow. I'll be grabbing one straight away and taking it for a whirl. I'll be sure to have pics and video streaming through Instagram ( @naishaustralia ), Face Book ( @Naish Australia ) and of coarse the Breeze ( www.seabreeze.com.au ). Majority of Naish Dealers have ordered at least one, so they should have in major east coast cities by Thursday, other east coast areas Friday, and SA and WA next week, so get in touch with your local dealer and book their demo now

Ride safe,

Here is a quick video from my session on the Odysseus yesterday. Unfortunately we have had shocking weather, and the ocean was matching, but the board is amazingly stable, catches bumps really easy, and actually really surprised me with it's surfing ability. I crossed the board up with the white water and pushed through some waves to test stability and ease of use with great results. An awesome price point do it all/all-rounder board.

Apologies for the music, I had issues with my Mac this morning.

Enjoy,

As a potential buyer ,how would this board rate in small surf compared to the 10' or 9'5" Mana. Not worried about using it to cover flat water distance.

Hey Waxer,

Having only ridden the board once and in very ordinary conditions, I would probably still lean towards the Mana's. The Tail on the Odysseus is very wide, and the rails are pretty thick (i.e. for all the stability), plus the single fin vs Thruster make the Mana the clear choice in that size/style of board for just waves. This being said, I was very impressed with the performance of the Odysseus, and look forward to getting into some more conditions. It is important to note that the Odysseus is not designed with wave riding in mind as opposed to having the ability to ride a small wave with relative ease, unlike the Mana which was redesigned this year for improved wave performance.

I hope this helps a bit.

Ride safe,

JB

One board tested, one board bought !!! SWMBO rode one with my 9-year old around Narrabeen Lakes whilst the TT was on... The hard word was duly applied when I got back/recovered so I took it for a spin and it's a lot of fun! Tracked straight like it's claimed to, but was nice and manouevarable as well. It's obviously very buoyant - I'm about 105kgs - and it was fine for me, for the wife and kid it's perfect! All in all very happy with it, going down for another paddle this arvo at Little Manly so I'll see how it handle some chop and boat washes etc. Happy to have joined the Naish crowd...

I'm also considering the Odysseus, Mana, JP Wide or Starboard Whopper Extra. I'm 58 yrs old, 6'5" tall, and 250 lbs (110 kg). Been surfing for 40 years and gave SUP a couple tries, but honestly had a hard time of it on anything but a huge race board (12'6" x 31"). I live on a boat so don't have the space for a board that big. Thought about an inflato, but not sure I'd be happy with one in the waves (too flexy, bouncy?). Problem is, the shops rarely, if ever, have these big boards in stock so my first opportunity to try one might be after I buy it. :P At the moment, the Odysseus is at the top of the list. I'll loose some surfing performance, but otherwise get the stability, floatation, and dimensions I'm looking for. Thoughts?

Bought an ODYSSEUS from Surffx. Arrived yesterday, along with a Mana 9.5.... Was going to give both a run...but starting out on the Odysseus I ended up having too much fun fooling around in choppy bay conditions, testing the limits of its stability and my balance. This will be my beginners/flat water cruise/fishing board.. and it certainly lives up to my expectation so far. I can see them doing well on the market.. cause there does not seem to be anything out quite like it. Thinking of mounting an entertainment system up the back... and a bbq/hibachi up the front! ;)

Ended up hiring an Odysseus for a few days, and really enjoyed it. Super stable, easy paddling etc. Only drawback (which I'd read about anyway) was the massive tail & chunky rails making quicker turns a bit tough on little waves. That being said, it's perfect for a family board or for just cruising around on. As DJ said, very much a 'Stable Table'!
