Hi,

I am looking at a Naish Nalu GT 11'4 (2014 model) mainly for flatwater/touring in the bay. Occasionally when the conditions are good for surfing I plan to surf small 3-4 ft waves, perhaps also a bit of windsurfing.

I am 180 cm and 85 kg. I do not have much experience of SUP boarding or surfing, but I want a board that I do not "outgrow".

Should I consider the Naish Nalu GT 10'10 (2014 model) instead of the Nalu GT 11'4? Which board is the best for flatwater/touring?

Is it worth the extra spend to buy a 2016 Naish Nalu model?

I'd recomend the 11'4" Nalu if you plan to surf.. The 10'10" is a great board but more suited to flat water..

You should also concider the new 11' Nalu.. IMO the 11' surfs the best.. The 10'10" paddles flat water the best.. and the 11'4" is the best all-rounder..

The shapes have not changed so buying second hand in good condition is fine..

Can't go wrong with a second hand 11.4 .at your weight the 11.4 @ 180 litre is enough .the 10'10 has 200.

Yes.. it goes well in light wind.. non planing conditions.. and surf sailing..

The 10'10'' out performs it in stronger planing condition..

@DJ - thanks for your answers once again! Went to my retailer yesterday and he insisted that the 11'4 is much faster and glides better than the 10'10. He said that the "channels" under the 10'10 board is only for flatwater (lakes) and useless in a little windy/choppy conditions.

Should I choose the 10'10 or the 11'4 for touring in the bay? Most of the time it is a little windy and choppy conditions?

I presume your retailer is talking about flatwater SUP glide and speed. Yes, the 11’4 would be better. I use mine with friends on 14’ DW boards regularly for flats and downwind. I can [almost] keep up. Nice and turny in surf. Very good allround SUP.

DJ is pointing out that FOR WINDSUP the 11’4 works OK light wind but resists planing while the 10’10 apparently planes nicely.

I have a slightly older 11'4 Nalu and can also confirm that (although fun) it's not a performance windsup. It has a big rocker and is narrow for the length so not as stable as shorter Nalus.

I'm just starting to consider trading mine for a board around 10' that surfs our local conditions better. Tough decision after swearing that I'll never let it go...great fun board.
