Hey Everyone,

Unfortunately wrong place ...wrong time on a wave the other day my Naish Mana, she Buckled. It happens to the best of us... Been super happy with this board and i think that they are a good build but just thems is the breaks... any board would have gone in the surf/position I was in.

Anyone had any experience repairing a buckle like this or know if it is worth it.
I have some experience repairing fibre glass but not eps/epoxy ..

I got a quote for about 200 bucks at a local repairer.... is it worth it .. or do you think it will break again or even in another place of weakness....

As you can see from the photos its cracked along the deck and both rails .. however bottom didnt go ... so the shape/rocker and structural integrity is still kinda of there..

Cheers for any responses.

Mikey.

Hi Mikey,
Had the same think happen to my mana (not the boards fault) looks identical.
Worth repairing
A local repairer fixed it up, a little bit heavier but very tuff.
The board is still going strong after about 2 years, sold it (cheap) to a mate for his first board loved it.

That's a bummer.. I've seen boards damaged like that fixed and ended up as good as new.. only a little heavier.

Definitely worth repairing......its not like its in the mid section of the board where stress/flex levels are much higher

Sounds like it's repairable, least it is nowhere near 2 pieces!

Care to share exactly how this happened?

I also have a Mana 9'5 and want to try to avoid this situation.

200 is a good price if they are reputable - especially if the board is worth it - to you.

Exactamundo bro..Unless you are continually nose diving into sand banks that part of the board takes very little stress.I have an 8'4"Mc Tavish carver with nearly exactly the same injury I took it to a mate who is a professional fibroglasser and "volar mossure".That was about 5 years ago,I must admit I don't ride it much anymore but it's just as strong as it ever was and sitting there waiting for the right swell to see if I can do it again.

Sounds worth it to me, i had almost identical damage to a 10 mana a few years ago cost 180 to repair and had no prob for the following 12 months that i had it.

Cheers

Hey Guys, thanks for all the replies. Going into the shop this week sometime... just had it drying out in the garage to get rid of any water in the core. Will put up some photos post repair... and tell you how it goes.

@SSSimon,

Like Gumballs said most are done by perling and nose diving into shallows water/sandbars... my mate did a shortboard like this too.

Where I was surfing (Garie Beach Royal national park sydney). There was a huge deep troth out back onto a sandbar then another long troth that slowly shallowed in towards the beach berm.

i was on a wave have a great old time in maybe head height waves... The wave doubled up on the one before and started to perl and the board was driven under the water into the first sandbar... maybe in about waist to chest deep water.

I think the best ways to avoid this happening are

- Dont Perl ever! well try not to. :P
- be very very careful around sand bars and shallows... would especially avoid late take offs and steep wave faces....and weird double ups, cross chop etc..
- stay in deeper water if cant handle the board around the above conditions

Any one else have any suggestions.
