Looking at these two boards for total flat water. I am 5'11" 190-195 lbs. What are your thoughts on these 2 boards? I live in hot area so concern on the MC is with the heat, any issues? Is the LE as stable as the MC?
I don't see the MC on the website anymore. Mostly, i see the mc's ending before the javelins in most pure flatwater races (in the results it is), as both are competing. Don't know if that gives you some clarity. What i know is that the LE is also used for long distance and downwind races, so also suitable for open water if you have the ability to handle such a small width board in rough conditions, so definately more usable allround. MC is the flatwater board. You now have the LE in both small width and a wider version for the smaller and bigger guys/women. If you are not competing that much i should go for the Javelin GX for the flatwater. Looking myself too for aboard from last year which are relatively cheap now. Hesitating between the LE and the Javelin GX, where the GX is heavier but also better suitable for breakage and so on.
just looked it up: both boards are to the limit of your bodyweight. Both suitable to a max. of 190 lbs where the LE is the much smaller board in width. The Javelin GX is suitable to 230 lbs. MC width 26 1/8 where the LE does 23 3/8. The Javelin GX 26 1/8.
For your weight and total flatwater I'd go with the MC - I've ridden them both extensively and although the LE23 accelerates quicker than the MC it does not carry it's glide as well, particularly not for us heavier guys. If you weighed 175pounds or less I'd say it starts evening itself out as the lighter guys sit higher in water and don't decelerate as much. I'm 185-190pounds and also 5'11.
In downwind conditions the LE is quicker but thats not what you are after.
They are both relatively unstable in choppy waters, especially with side-chop - but it's much of a muchness between the two of them. The MC is wider but has rounder rails all the way back (which makes it more slippery, as in fast) so it is ultimately about as (un)stable as the LE.
I wouldn't worry about the heat - it has a one way valve and whether it is hot or cold the main problem is change in temperature. If you experience big temperature changes then releasing the valve will let excess pressure out. I've found the MC construction very durable - pretty much solid carbon which can take a hell of a beating - much stronger than LE.
