Hi All,

I was hoping for some advice in regards to board choice. I'm looking for a board that I can use for open ocean touring as well as downwind and then flat water exercising also... in that order of importance.. I would love to get a 14' board but realistically can't store it out of the elements.. A 12'6 I can fit in the house (much to my wifes delight!).. I've been looking at the Naish Glide and the Starboard Elite Touring...I love the Naish Glide GS but the Starboard ET is better fitted out for storing kit for touring... Perhaps I'm trying to cover too many bases with one board?

I guess I have two questions
1). Am I loosing a lot of speed/performance dropping from a 14' to a 12'6? and
2). Can anyone offer advice between the two boards mentioned above?

How heavy are you.. and welcome to the breeze..

I have a 12'6'' Glide.. and it's an awesome board..

It doesn't take much to put tie-down points on it..

The new Starboard elite touring board is also very nice..

IMO the starbie is a better flat water board and the Naish a better downwinding board..

I'm 95kg... I'm leaning towards the Glide, but wasn't sure at my weight + a bit of gear for touring, if I needed the 12'6 or 14'?

I'm 6'4" and 95kg.. You will be fine on the 12'6" x 30" Naish Glide with a load of gear on it because it's so thick and chunky.. It's perfectly suited to bigger guys.. Mine is the pre 2015 version but the new one is also a big board for a 12'6".. The Starbie is more suited to a smaller person and although it might be still fine I'm guessing you'd be better off on the 14' board if you choose the Starboard.. The 14' x 30" Glide would probably be your best option of the lot but if you have storage restrictions you will be fine on a 12'6" if it's the Glide.. Here's a couple of vids of my 12'6" x 30" Glide..

Here is a video of the Starboard Elite Touring. You can get the 12'6" in either 30" or 31" width so you would be covered at any weight. I think you could definitely downwind on it, but frankly, those tie downs at the back would interfere with stepping back on a runner.
