Been surfing a DEEP minion for a while now and was thinking about how in might go as a thruster instead of the standard quad set up.

Anyone got any feedback on what they have tried and what they thought of this style of board as a thruster.

Havn't tried the minion but run my jp slate as a thruster and it is so much better with 3 fins. If your minion already has rear fcs plugs give it a go could be miles better the slate is. Otherwise its fair old job to put plugs in pretty sure you need to cut out a box and fill with high density foam first

Waz I find with with most Tomo shapes Quad is the go because they are so wide in the tail. The problem you have with your Minion as a Thruster is the rear centre box is a shallow one. You will need a Large centre twin foiled rear with the short base. Unfortunately they don't make them. I getting some moulds made so my V6 & V8 will fit but thats 8 weeks away. I have had heaps of request for it. Simon put the shallow rear box in for nubsters.

If you want to test it out just get an old rear centre fin (USA box) and trace out the short future base and grind away give that a try.

Hello Wazz, been fins tune up my own shorter board of that kind, so I reckon to do a more oriented twin-fin with trailers set up than thruster . I find perfect to me wide base fins like TC redline in front and a trailer made of rear quad fins as TC Aqualine. I like this combo because my theory is more the board is wide, less the fin area has to be large and deep. Because of the following theory : Front fins has to plounge both rail and planning area of the board in the water but fins don't have to be load from water during turn.
So, as Piros show and pointed on from a JP boards sometimes ago, foils of fin would be convex instead of flat like AB2 from FCS , those fins has been made to carve more than "dish panning"
Briefly, less fin area you have more chance you have to carve those wide sorts of surfboard like Minion.
Comment: Can be the Minion is more oriented thruster type than a twin fin , that due to the tail lift and contours I cant really see from picture.
