Has anyone tried both these boards and be able to comment on the differences.

Looking for an all-round board to step down in board length/size. Specs/Volume on the two boards are very similar. I'm 115 kg, 6'5" , been sus'ing 2 years

Would like it to be able to handle both slower bay ( Mal) waves and local beachies .

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have had a Naish Mana GS 10'0x33"x4.75 for about a month now, it is my first board, so i cannot compare really but I would say I think it rides low in the water.

It could be my beginner technique but the rails are often 3/4 submerged when just in flat water. Still finding my sea legs quite literally as have been using in open sea water but I sometimes think shouldnt it be higher.

Not sure if that that helps all..

Dear Kwinn

I have recently purchased a Fanatic Allwave 9/5.

I am 97kg and 175cm.

I cannot comment in any meaningful comparative way for reason that this is the first SUP board that I have ever owned. My only experience paddling on other boards has been on a few demo boards kindly provided by the retailer where I purchased my board.

As you, I was looking for a reasonable all round board - i.e. on the flat, surfing and also paddling the chop from beach to beach once in a while - with a view to exercise and fun rather than board performance.

Whilst looking at a variety of boards I also was looking at build quality, rigidity, overall stiffness and at least an honest performance on the flat water including board volume.

What sold me on the Fanatic Allwave was:

1) The board was acceptable and stable whilst paddling on flat water.

2) The volume of the board for the length was superior to the other options available - 170 litres for my combined approximate 100kg overall weight.

3) The dimensional quality and overall quality of finish of new boards of that type (in the shop) were observed by me to be better than some of the slightly cheaper boards.

4) As far as I was aware at the time, Fanatic's competitors were not selling a similar type of short, wide and thick board with an additional 20 litres volume over similar length boards.

5) The Fanatic board appeared to me to be manufactured in a manner appropriate for the product's intended use. Tapping lightly on composite materials and listening to the sound provides significant information on the strength and stiffness of such materials. This board, in my opinion as a non-expert, appeared to me to be significantly stiffer and more rigid than other boards tested and viewed. I was particularly unimpressed by some SUP boards that had simple epoxy coatings that in my opinion were too soft and not reasonably fit for the intended use of the product.

6) The price, albeit slightly higher, was very reasonable when compared to the various other board and price options. A higher price also serves as an implicit representation as to quality and fitness for purpose if I am ever unlucky enough to be required to rely on my rights as against the retailer who might end up bearing the commercial risk in relation to such issues. A retailer that therefore allows for such commercial risk in the first place via a reflection in price is less likely to argue if an unhappy customer requests a refund.

I hope the above helps,
Cheers

I love my Fanatic Allwave 9'6.

Yeah its a bigger board than most of the other guys are using in the surf, but I get it going pretty good, and dare I say I'm having more fun than the guys on the smaller pointier boards. Plus I'm taking it out in everything from 1 foot runners, to overhead hollow waves and having a ball. Its easy to paddle into a wave early, turns good when you get back over the fins, and if you want to try a cheeky nose ride or what have you its got the volume and shape required. Also the missus can take it out for a casual flat water paddle after work or whatever, cause its pretty user friendly to newbies.
