Anyone have any insight on the material the Liftsup handles are made from? I've seen stats on 'shear' strength re. picking boards up etc. but curious how resistant they are to someone cutting through them if they're used as a point to pass a lock through? Assuming any hacksaw or bolt cutters will make short work of them, but would it be safe to assume they'd be tough to just 'break' off?
Heading up the coast over Christmas, and will be locking the Speeed up on the deck of where we're staying as soundly as possible - maybe best to take it inside when we're not there!!!

If it's possible I'd take it inside, I wouldn't sleep if I were just securing via handle.

Have just been into a marine supply place, and had a loop of stainless wire swaged up - will throw that in the kit to loop through the leash plug also to attach a lock if needed as another deterrent. Should be able to fit it inside the accomm. but my better half may not be too keen! Inside to store it will be the preference but we'll see.

I put a bike chain ( retail lock) through my pop up handle, attach to caravan and place under van. Have been known to run chain through two sups. Not perfect but I figure it will buy some time if someone is trying to rip them off. I don't believe it would be easy to snap the handle. In answer to your question.
my concern is my new board just has the regulation carrier, I guess I'm going to have to rig something up to attach to leash plug. The stainless steel wire sounds perfect.

If your board has a US type fin box this is a simple solution. I used it to secure my downwind board outside at a sailing centre for several years. Not perfect but another deterrent. www.dockslocks.com/

Yeah unfortunately it's a Sunova with 3 x dual-tab slots, but I see the Dockslocks jaws will also grab onto the metal bar in the leash plug.

Excellent, thanks Iam. Yeah I'm thinking the handle would a tough thing to break off. Would probably need a hacksaw or heavy-duty bolt cutters to get through it. Like you said, buys some time. Comboed with the wire loop through the leash plug also locked onto something solid and maybe it'll be enough deterrent for them not to bother (in the event I can't fit it inside the accommodation without my better half slapping me upside the head for getting fin cuts on her legs during a middle-of-the-night loo run!!!

Swaged & swage covered with tape re. scratch avoidance

Having now been at our destination for 3 days, it seems my concerns about board theft were a little over the top.a dude has been leaving his (quite decent!) Alley Designs board & paddle just sitting on the beach overnight every night, and comes past for a session every morning & just sits it back on the beach again for the next day. Saves carrying it!!!

That said, he's got WAY bigger cojones than me! Mine's locked up tighter than a fishes' bum and hidden away! Paranoia from previous light-fingered grubs I guess.

Could not think of anything worse than having your board hooked whilst your away, pretty hard just to nick down the shop and get it replaced. Best be safe than sorry, i reckon.

The best system is two "L" shaped inox plates with a hole for a big padlock and an inox chain. It isn't very simple to make: it you need specialized workshop with metal bending machines but the result is perfect and durable.
