Hi definitely a good option as a step down from the 9'0 SA Carrier. It's a fun little board in pretty much all conditions. The best thing abut the board is the refined performance rails. For relatively wide board with a semi pulled in nose, it still loves waves with some grunt. Probably most at home though in average waves where the flat rocker and wide tail provide heaps of speed, often without the need to pump and it's also a great noserider.
Its a bit heavy and won't turn as hard as the narrower tailed boards out there but depending on what fins you use it can be loose as a goose or fast and drivey.
I have also owned a current shape Starboard 8'5 x 30 Pocket Rocket in Carbon, also 130L and in my opinion it out surfs the Flashback in all but heavier grunty waves. The Starboard isn't as naturally quick on slower waves and you do notice the fuller nose when the surf gets steeper. Also surprisingly not as good for noseriding either. But the Pocket Rocket is just so much fun surfed off the tail. More stable, especially in chop and easier to catch waves than the LSD.
If you mostly surf mushy/slower waves or often choppy then I would go the pocket rocket. This board has been around for a while and I think a lot of people write it off as old news but I rate it very highly in its current shape.
More powerful and bigger waves I would go for the LSD Flashback.
But if it were me choosing, having already owned those two I would be getting a 2014 Naish 8'5 Mana. Also 130L, similar dimensions and wide tail. It looks like a really fun size/shape board and the Naish boards are fairly light too.

I'm 6'3, 95kg, Suppin' for about 5 years and currently ride a Fanatic 8'5 Prowave and waiting for my Starboard 7'8 Widepoint to arrive.

Good luck, I think you would enjoy any of the three boards.

Cheers mate that exactly what i was after..great feed back..at present i have been offer the 8'6 allwave 2013, the Lsd flashback and the Naish 2013 Mana 8 '10 bamboo , the Starboard 8'5 pro all for about the same dollars..i defintely like the new naish 2014 8'5 GT but that alot more expensive at present. Was also having a look at the Fanatic prowave HRS 8 '10 but alot of reviews say it quite tippy.
Im leaning towards the Flashback -i like the sounds of the Pocket Rocket too. To get to my favourite surf spot where the waves are usually clean big and pumpy its a 30 min paddle, so that something i have to consider. My SA 9ft has been magic in all conditions but looking for the next step SUP.
Id grab a JP australia 8'6 if I had the money. There are a couple coming in to NZ soon but you can get two boards for the price they are going for.
if yoy have anything too add id be happy to hear it

Yeah I thought later that I should have also mentioned the Fanatic 8'6 Allwave. Possibly?? not as high performance as the others with quite boxy rails but it would still be a nice step down from the SA 9fter and could easily do a 30 min paddle out to a break, even in wind or chop. I don't know anyone who hasn't been happy after purchasing an Allwave. Even the Prowaves have comparably fat rails but they still surf very well, so I guess you just can't tell until you ride a board. I was seriously looking at the 8'6 Allwave as my everyday/messy surf board until I spotted the Pocket Rocket in Carbon and couldn't resist! The Fanatics have great resale value too. I think the 8'10 Mana would be a step sideways.
Cheers

Cheers again mate ..im leaning towards to Flashback as i like that performance rail feel to it..my lose a bit of glide heading around the corner but i can live with that. Have you find your carbon less resiliant to pressure dings or wear and tear. there is a carbon future flex version available in the Flashback now but has a hefty price tag. Some reviews has suggested its not ideal for hard handling and prone to damage easliy?
thanks for your feedback
