Anyone had much experience with these L41 pop darts and fin combinations etc? It's 7'9 x 27 x 105l.
I picked up this board recently and had a first test yesterday in some choppy, low tide and quite hollow overhead waves. it's running the white rainbow fin co keel / quad set up it came with but I see there's a us centre fin box there. Step deck is pretty noticeable, I hadn't been out for 5 weeks so took a little adjustment in choppy water!
Haven't had a step deck before.
it just had so much natural glide down the face when it took off and handled the hollow juice much better than expected.

Looks sweet mate. Would be pretty fast I reckon. That rocker, straight rails and tail width... damn! Haven't even seen one over my way before, only online.

Cool looking board. Since you have the rear box I think its worth trying as a twin/trailer as an experiment. You could first try it with a small trailer and if that seems like it has potential get some more twin specific front fins. If it was me though I never would have put a fifth box in that tail. I don't really see the thruster potential in it, but you could try that also especially if you already have a fin set.

Thanks for the responses. It seemed to have a lot of glide and hold, but just wanting to loosen it up a bit. A few reviews said that you need to be right on the tail for these boards but hoping some fin adjustment might help a little. it has future fins which I have a normal set of quads for (rather than keels) and I also have some shapers S9 side fins and a smaller thruster middle of an FCs K3 fin set I could try.
At a top line, it looks like a more modem version of the old gulliver vbox. Same width and dims as the old 7'9 but with a more pointed nose, bit more nose rocker and noticeable step deck to keep the rails fine.

I bet it'll feel loose after a few sessions and just experimenting w footwork even if subconsciously, that was my experience w the ST, coming from pintail

Just picked up a used L41 split tail before I rode it for the first time my thoughts were that the tail would never work ,wrong it turns just fine and the thin rail's definitely help yes get your foot on the back and good things happen can't wait for some better surf.The original owner said he tried a bunch of fin combos and his conclusion was the stock fins felt the best I've only had one go on the board so I am going to give those fins some time.

What fins are on yours k dog? The ST looks like it has more vee but less rocker than the pop dart?

They look just like the ones on your board I think they are a version of the controller pivot quads by futures. Like I said I've only had one go on the board in clean but not so great waves with that wide tail I can see why it's set up as quad and I don't have a center fin option also mine is a lot bigger 8'2 x30 130 lit.

I reckon it has the centre box for a nubster fin as the tail is so wide. You'd never run as a thruster, but an upright quad with a nub makes sense to me.

Haha you read my mind Hoppo, I was a bit worried for its maiden voyage in overhead hollow waves with that wide tail so I put in a dark drive nub fin in for my first ride.

I remember way back on my old gulliver vbox, a lot of people said the thruster won't work but oddly I found it free'd up the board a lot. I think that might've had more vee in the tail though

I kind of went thru same thing with my l41 quad it could track and be hard to make a tighter turn in bigger more powerful surf or if I didn't get back on tail and move my foot rail to rail. I still think it's good to play with different fins if you have them, the k3 is a nice center fin I use it on my step up board and it's a good compromise between hold and turning.

Have you tried a thruster on it Slsurf? Which model do you have?

I don't have the center box on mine. It's a Bruce Wayne model but I got it with a wider tail that looks more like the st. I'm a lightweight so it's hard to compare with others but at 18'' it's pretty wide for my size, dims are similar to outline on sunova flow or gong Karmen so not a dedicated small wave board but still very fast to pump down the line.
