Okay, so my much anticipated 9'2" Stun Gun has arrived, but I have a choice of quad or thruster setup. I've only ever ridden boards with a tri-fin setup and not sure what to expect in terms of performance if I go with 4 instead of 3 fins.
I'm after good down the line speed, but still like to throw it around and have plenty of turnability. Most surf would be the 3-4 ft range. Any feedback much appreciated.

Originally a thruster setup but after testing the Stun Gun performs insane as a Kwad. Now all Stun Guns come with a 5 fin option. the rail shape allows placement anywhere on the face of a wave continuing with Jimmy's trademark smooth ride feel.

that is what the guys at Jimmy Lewis said about running it as a quad.The only thing a thruster should has over a quad is a bit more drive, but generally a quad should be faster and easier to turn, if you have trouble with drive you can always run it with a "nubster" but that should only be a problem in really small waves and i don't know if a thruster would be much better not having ridden mine as a thruster, very happy with mine as a quad.

On a serious side - try both setups for yourself and see what feels best. Dave has a thousand sets of quad fins so try try try. Personally I think quads in sups are shlt and do nothing for the boards other than make them skatey and less controllable (personal opinion only)

I hope yours is easier to stand on than Daves - definately felt my age on his 8.7

Well surfed the new board today in clean 2ft with occaisional 3 ft sets and was extremely pleased with boards performance. The board is fast, but is loose and an absolute pleasure to throw around on the face. I have no plans to change from quad to thruster and would say I'm a convert to this setup already. The board has quite an upswept nose which makes late take-offs a cinch. A secondary advantage is that you only have to place your weight back a small way to allow the nose to ride up over a broken wave when heading out the back, rather than smashing through it.
I previously surfed a Starboard WP, but this is streets ahead. Looking forward to taking it out in some bigger surf!

starbies seem to be the go for the locals.

nice looking board, GO THE QUAD SETUP I have both the mano and the quad , With the waves you have on your door step mate , the quads gunna GO SICK!!!!!!!! I wish I was there ,all those waves HMMMMM

I found the Stock Quad Fins well the back fins a bit big for the small Surf I have had, & buy putting the small center fin in I can now send this board in all surf conditions. Love the board "it is so far the snappiest loos, radical SUP I have SUPed." The board is the 9'7" X 31 feels like a 8'5 x 30.




Every time I get on, it takes about 10min to get settled, then click it all settles down, great for paddling out at 31 wide, would like to go back to the Quad set up will have to order some of these in Futures.



WE have (I have loaned this one of my favourite boards) to a local rider "HAM!" he is a big boy like my self, & will get some feed back as to how sick this board is. Happy days or hard days.

Thruster all the way! That is what the board was design for and that is where the shape shine the most.
For biggish waves 5 inches thruster is perfect.

Yeah fair cop on the colour BB, on the official site the blue looked "darker". Oh well at least it surf's good. Have had a mixed bag of opinions, will try a thruster setup next time out, but I'm sceptical that it will beat the quad setup for that loose, chuck it about feel. More surf please!

I've been playing around quite a bit with the fins on my 9'2, I am running thruster set up but wanted some bigger side fins so bought a set of Jamie Mitchell's






I find that using these and messing around with different size/location centre fins gives the board some versatility, I often use this PC5 (4.5") for mushy little local waves and the JM centre or even a 7" fin for when it starts getting big.



Not saying that this is the ideal set up, it's working ok for me for now, but I will keep experimenting.

These are what do it for me, scarfini FX2 quads, bit smaller than the Jimmy Lewis set that came with the board(these are the best set of fins that i have ever had that came with a board, just a bit big for me) + a small nubster

been thinking of using a setup like this, with the nubster in my 9'3 sub vector would be interested to hear if you think it creates more drive, how it turns with it compared to without etc

I need the nubster to give me that bit of drive in the small stuff, but I don't think It has made much difference to the turn ability of the board, I think that the quads by themselves would be a bit small to run without the nubster, you can only try it and see how you go, I've had boards that work really well with one set of fins but just don't work on other boards I have had so you never really know till you try them out.

small wave or slow wave set MANO Fin
Big Wave or fast wave set KWAD fin
