Considering getting a JP 8'8" Surf Wide Body.

Looking for information about the durability of the two constructions offered. Based on what I have found out the PRO construction sounds like it might be a little on the delicate side.

What is your experience with these boards? As durable as any other production boards?

Also, anyone know if these boards have a vent plug? Doesn't look like it.

There's no vent plug as they are fully sealed. I ve had the JP pro 9'2 for some time and no problems with durability, Wood version is cheaper, more durable but is significantly heavier, all depends what personal preference is.

Sorry Supa. The 8 8 Surf Wide Body definitely has a vent plug. ( If you check my photo on the evaluation topic you will see the vent plug screw in the white deck pad near where it ends). Mine is now all of 3 surfs old. Snapped my Fanatic Carbon paddle blade on the deck first surf on it.Was out in some big stuff last weekend. So far, no major wear marks. Couple of scratches from paddle strike. I use Rail Saver Pro that does exactly that. So far so good on the Pro version. Ask me in a year and I can tell you how many visits I have had to OKE with 150 in my hand! Ha Ha.
Most pleased with the investment! Dont hesitate, it's a keeper!

Momasfolly, are you sure that's a vent plug as all my JP pros have that same hole but it is a a mast insert fixture for attaching a sail etc same as the fanatic pro....unless JP has done something very different with this new model from all others.

Recent delivery Pro editions are now running the vent screw. The pro editions are very durable and can take a far bit of abuse. If you can afford one then get it.

go the carbon every time, I would have said that normal human beings really couldn't tell the difference. I was absolutely wrong, carbon is simply better.

100% Certain. Mast plug is just in front of the handle. Saw the SSteel screw being inserted myself!
Being the Pro it is lighter that the Wood deck, was talked into it by another customer when I went to purchase. Love it, and any kilo saved is a kilo les to move around!

Interesting info about the vent plug, has JP lost faith in the sealed design or have there been any problems and so back to plugs for all there boards?...

We have the carbon cruiser 2013 Model no vent plug .very durable it has copped a couple of hard knocks and no problems in fact you can Hardly see any scuff marks because of the brushed carbon finish . Great board.
