Hey gang,

Been riding a JP 9'2" Pro for about 3 months now & love it so much, I got myself an 8'10" Pro to go with it.
First surf today in 2-3ft onshore but fun waves. Was very surprised at how stable it is. There was alot of chop today & being 6'2" & 105kg I thought it may be a bit of hard work & take a few surfs to get the hang of it & get my stability dialed in.... Not the case.... Stood up & stayed comfortably up imediately. I found it only slightly less stable than the 9'2". But its really not that noticable. I put Kinetic Racing LE 3 Luke Egan fins in it & the board just rips!! Definitely looser & lighter than the 9'2 but with a touch less drive...

Got 4 days off starting Friday. Lots of fun sessions coming up.

Yeah, feels great stepping down to a smaller board, I also ride the 8' 10 pro, but tried the 8'6 out the other day, wow, smaller board rips, gets you out of your comfort zone though.
By the way I'm around 86 kg, so horses for courses, might have to get the Surf Fx boys to get me the 8'6

Agreed Bigman. Feels good stepping down. Thought I'd struggle with the 8'10" but now starting to think the 8'6" might not be impossible after all.

Unfortunately haven't been able,to demo a JP surf pro.
I have demo'd a JP Surf Wide and while its a fun board, I think the surf would suit me better, so I may have to take a risk and buy without testing.
So do I consider the 9'2" or the 8'10" Surf?
I currently ride the 9'10" Naish Hokua (tested a 9'0" Hokua, prefer this size but a bit tippy)
I have asked you a similar question before about the JP 9'2" and Hokua 9'0", but how does the 8'10" compare stability wise to the 9'0" Hokua?

They're completely different stability wise. The JP 8'10 is way more stable! I've had it out in bumpy onshore & clean offshore & haven't fallen off it in the lineup once. On the 9'0 Hokua I was teabagging all the time in clean conditions & found it very frustrating.It definitely yaws more than the 9'0 Hokua but that would be the only category it trails in. Fantastic board!!!

Hi Flying High, you will find the 8'10 JP more stable than the Hokua, the JP has a fuller nose and is a tiny bit wider, about the same volume.

I have a 9 and 8'5" 2013 Hokua and comparing with other boards I have had the Hokua stated length measurements and volume seem to be higher than actual. Having said that this is not an issue for me at my weight. The 8' 5" seems much smaller than the specs compared with the 9' Hokua as well.

How accurate are the JP specs?

A little more stability would be good if the performance is there in the 8' 5" size - I am 76 kg and average SUPper at the best.
