Thanks for the insight... I am in the 100+ club, looking for my first 14' board to dw on, paddle socially, get fitter and maybe even recreationally race. Having paddled the 2015 14 x 29 Falcon, I was a bit surprised at the initial tippiness... Seems to be a common observation though. So hoping the Glide will fit the bill with a bit more stability ! How do you see it in comparison to the 29 wide Glide which I believe is the same shape as last year?
I've paddled both the 14 x 30" Glide and the new 14 x 29.75" Falcon in the last couple of weeks...while the Falcon felt more nimble to me, the GLIDE is incredibly stable by comparison, and easily the stiffest and hardest-to-upset 14 footer I have ever been on (I am in the mid 120's)...yes you feel the weight, but the thing is like a rhinoceros on the water...in a good way. Ploughs through chop but it picks up & runs well and is very easy to step back on and pivot. Big, strong units well over the 100kg mark should take a serious look at it...even though there is a fair bit of dry weight to carry the new Naish handle sits well in a big hand and takes the edge off carrying quite a bit. You won't be as fast as a 70kg whippet on a Jav, but you wouldn't be anyway.
Compared to the previous 14 x 29 Glide (which I've had a few sessions on), would fit somewhere between the new Glide and the new Jav...the 14 x 30 is more stable but less nimble-feeling, if that makes sense. If you're a heavyweight chasing stability, the new 14 x 30 is the go, if you're closer to 100kg, the older glide or even the 28" Jav.
The 12'6 by 30" Glide is also well worth a try...that board is fun.
