Anyone done it? Seems like latest generation mats made of better materials.....you can adjust air pressure out in surf (blowing).....and of course very portable ? Used to be a knee boarder so know that getting low down gives you a completely different wave perspective

yep love them! Been riding them for a few years, a mate of mine here builds some of the best mats going. Always keep one in the van and always bring a smile!

I had no idea surf mats still existed. Many, many, (many) years ago I used to use a surf mat at Pt Leo. We used to drive down from Olinda (sorry non Viccos), along death road, to go for a surf. I then upgraded to a surf board, but it all started on a mat.

Way back, end of the 60's on New York's beaches I started my on first surf forays on one of these.

That at you couldn't turn them and got terrible rashes from them, they didn't hang around very long.

I guess with a rashie and the summer crowds a modern one could be a blast. Wet is wet.

lennox has a crew of mat riders,all really friendly people(LOL)

like many others they were my first introduction to surfing, before getting one for Christmas we used to hire them from Newcastle ocean bathes and run around to the surf ( mum and dad not that keen and the guy hiring never knew or didn't care ) they were black rubber and you had to make sure you cooled them before jumping on. Ahhh memories.

Ah yes, the rashes!! Without a t-shirt you would be red-raw. Nasty... If the t-shirt rode up - pain!

Surfo. Dee Why. Still remember the feeling of speed. Must have been all of 5. Later graduated to kneeling and catching waves. Still get the "rush" when catching a wave - just not on a surfo. What a great sport we participate in!

i remember being with my brother and a mate who had just received a mat of the material kind ( not rubber) and we would pump them up at the servo near the train station, on this occasion my mate pumped it up a lot too much and separated the seam making for half with chambers and half a ballooon funniest thing to watch at the time.
