Hi,My board has some delam under the deck grip and i want to remove all of the deck grip as i suspect some other damage under there, i am wondering if anyone knows how to peel the stuff off without leaving the back half of it stuck to the board and a big mess, i dont care if i wreck the deck grip i just wanna get it of cleanly to see if the board is worth fixing, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as winter swells around the corner and i want to get it sorted. Thanks

Ive used a heat gun on low... and then a plastic ruler. but be very very very careful not to bake the epoxy/glass. Still doesn't really come off totally clean but better.

Hi Wheels ,if you go back through the posts there is a heap of info on this ,but I have a question for you ,how do you know the deck is de-laminating if its under the grip,can you feel it or can you see the damage? How did this damage occur?
I,m curious as my board has depressions where I stand and I,m not sure whats happening under the grip?

Because i am a lazy ass and left my board at the front of my house on a really hot day the deck shrunk either side of the stringer and then a week later i noticed a bubble in the deck grip about 250mm in diameter. When i push this bubble it feels like a layer of glass or expoxy is what has formed the bubble underneath. I have two other SUPS that are in good condition that i could use but i just love the shape of this SUP and so want to fix it as i brought from over east and a hassle to get new one. I used the board today and am taking it down south for 4 days over the weekend then i will attempt to get the deck grip off and assess the damage, As for the indentations in your board i wouldnt worry to much as i have had this on a board once for years and it wasnt a problem and normal surfboards often do this without any cracks or leaking into the board and you would do more damage if you tried to have a look.

I haven't tried this, just an idea how one of my friends fixed a boat deck that had delaminated.

Drill some holes through the grip into the delam area. Inject in mixed up epoxy.

For a SUP with deck grip, put it deck down on some blocks of wood that will push the deck back onto the blank. Put some bricks wrapped in a towel onto the bottom of the board to compress the delam area back down and keep it there. The idea is that excess epoxy will come out of the drill holes and drip onto the floor, not make a puddle on the deck grip.

Should be ready to surf when the epoxy sets.
