Hi all,

I'm about 92kg, 183cm. Been supping and surfing for 5 years and thinking of getting a more performance oriented sup.

Considering Hokua GTW 9.6 or Hokua X32 (9.1 or 8.8).

Any advice?

hi farmer jed

i have the 8.8x32 and the 9.5 GTW hokua (old model was 9.5)....very different boards to start with!
the x32 is more larger and bulky and in my opinion suitable for mushy waves or beach breaks, the hokua on the other hand is narrower and easier to paddle long distances, finer rails, handle more hollow waves , so basicaly the hokua has a wider range of use, track better and has more glide but still a wonderful board to surf even in overhead waves or small waves longboard style, even if his shape was not made specificaly for that.
so really its about the conditions you may have in your local spot and the type of waves but i feel the X32 rails are too boxy to have real surf feeling in the water, you have the floating feel instead.

Hope that help

Thanks for that, seems similar to other feedback.

It's likely I'll have a fair bit of paddle so seems if I can handle the longer board a better choice.

i never thought I'd say anything bad about my 8'8 x32 ,but as said it feels boxy in the rails and doesn't bite the wave as good as the narrower hokua ,but the x32 has its day when its mushy and small it will shred .
not biting into the chop rather float across it and carry all the looseness you could imagine in a board.
If you want loose and throw around ,x32 .more bit on a face and bigger wave riding hokua.the hokua paddles a lot faster ,as the x32 has lots of rocker ...never nosed dived once .
I'm 96 kgs.
i have both .9,1 and 8'8.
I Still enjoy riding the 9'1 in big days .it catches waves way easier .than the 8'8 due to less rocker ..
and has 150 litres ..if i feel old i will take this one out ,

Thanks all really useful input.

I'm going to give the Hokua a go and dream about a x32 8'8 as future build for the quiver!

Ive always thought norrow rails was the way to go but i tried a 7,10 *32 Hokua old stock, looked really, wide ,but i loved it super loose and fun so now im riding one . Doesn't paddle fast over a long distance, but accelerates really quick to catch stuff i use to use my 10;6 narlu for, supper light on the leg rope on beach breaks and heaps of rocker right at the front.
Have fun

Hi,

It's my first post in this forum

I'm wondering whether the Hokua X32 is suitable for a wave SUP beginner? I weigh 72 kg and I am a wave sailor and can surf my 8' malibu. I'm looking for a SUP for small mushy waves when the wind is too low for windsurfing. What length/volume should I take?

look out for a second hand 83 or better a 88 x 32 the 8 8 is a magic board and should be easy for your weight and ideal for those waves
