Im trialling an 8'0 hipster twin at the moment. Never had a twin to play around on before but curious how most of you leave the centre knub fin? Back in the box? In the middle? Far forward? Don't run it at all?
interested in your experiences. how do you find the stock fins?

Great choice of board btw.

Many people over complicate fins.

Simple concept ..... right up equals looseness and right back more drive/stiffer and less looseness.

However a few years back I had the 7'10 Smik hipster, and put my rear right up in small beaches and back further the bigger it got. Up was good in small 2/3 ft and then moved it back as it got bigger.

Surfed it in 4/6ft Gold Coast Point breaks and felt I needed more centre rear size, so spoke to Scotty Mc and he advised me to move my front fins forward a tad as there was a bit of movement allowed in the front boxes still.

Try moving the centre rear forward and back in 1cm increments by taking a fin key out with you and adjusting it in the water on the go.

I have a long term relationship with fins, they intrigue me with the effect the have on your board. I also ran the Asher Pacey twin fin and small centre rear set and found them the best for me and my style. Check out the link attached below.

Move your fin by hand in the water without tools.

My next custom is going to have an US Box in the center, to use a finjack for the center fin of my thruster setup.
With Quobba fins, of course.

Need Quobba to bring out single fins that can fit into a US box without all the other faff.

Thanks guys, I'm only 70kg and know the 8'0 is quite big for me but it came up for sale at a price I couldn't say no to. I normally ride the 8'2 new Smik spitfire v3 so this is much flatter, thicker and wider. conditions today were quite a punchy beach break head to slightly overhead size. The kind of punchyness and set size that the spitfire is made for really. I moved the knub fin to maybe 2cm from the back of the box. Thought maybe it was a bit ambitious for the hipster tbh! There was a bit of offshore wind and the wider nose did make it hard to get down the face but it paddled over chunky whitewash pretty easily really.
Eventually got the timing right and made a couple of decent waves. There was a semi-barrelling overhead left that I thought I would nailed on but the board just stuck it and clung to the face, screaming along. Def a different feel to regular thrusters or quads but still can't quite put my fingers on the explanation.Same with a couple of rights, managed to whip off a pretty sharp spraying top turn that surprised me and a few of the shortboarders around. It feels like a board that you don't really pump and push, but flow and point to what you want it to do? I love the tail and hold / release. Might try these fins on my spitfire and see what happens. Would actually love this tail on the spitfire! Coining the new model a 'spit-ster' haha.
how did those Asher pacey fins differ to the way it rode? Do you find much of a difference between to the pivot or looseness in smaller stuff when shifting the knub forward a bit?

I've got the 7'10. I really like the stock fins. I have the centre knub sligthly back from centre and have basically left it there. love the looseness and easy turning of this board.

Cool thanks for the info. Do you find it noticeably more loose with the centre knub in the middle than the back? Interesting info with Scotty to suggest moving the fins forward a touch for bigger waves too. I've brought both that and the spitty away for the weekend for some waves and playing around. Intrigued to see how the spitty goes with the hipster fins!

I would love a single fin (around 9') by Quobba, however.

That's what I mean Colas..for my longboard SUPs they work better as 2+1 set ups than true thrusters but that isn't an option at the mo. I would like them to produce single fins 6/7/8 inches for example. I use the Quobbas as sides only and a normal 7 inch centre. Even just with the sides I feel a difference so would love all the fins to be Quobbas..would be ace.
