I'm looking at getting a Go Pro for mounting to the SUP and for taking videos and photos of the kids at the beach. I was thinking about getting the black version but was wanting some advice if it is worth the extra money over the Silver.

Also, has anyone used the LCD screen Bacpac and what did they think of it.

Thanks in advance for the advice

We have the hero3 black with the lcd. I like it.

only thing... you need to update the firmware straight away and make sure the card you use is on the approved list. Otherwise it will shut down at the worst time and the only wsy to reset it is to remove the battery. A little hard 30metres underwater.

Black, the Wifi is handy for nose mounting and taking shots.
Chest strap is good too. Tough Cam but Make Sure you update the firmware!

If you don't buy the LCD back you can view and play back through your smart phone, good luck.

If you're looking to save some money, the White edition is pretty good too. Does 1080p video (but lower framerate, so you can't slow-mo it as much unless you shoot in 720p), has Wifi, everything else is the same but no LCD screen. The good news is that it's just over half the price of the black and you can find them for about $270.

Wait a few months for the release of the Hero 4. Rumored to have 4k Ultra HD H.264 Encoder
Super high frame rates 1080 @ 120fps 720 @ 240fps
Electronic stabilization
The list goes on

I'm mainly going to be using it for taking pics of the kids (mine, not others) at the beach instead of using my SLR which would be an expensive fix if I dropped it in the water.

It sounds like the silver edition my be enough
