I am new to SUP and looking to purchase a new/second hand board. I have read alot of relevent posts on this forum and have narrowed it down I think to the Coreban 11'6 cruiser Naish Nalu 11'4 and the NSP 11'0 any other suggestions are more than welcome. Did a couple of lessons on the 11'0 NSP and found it really stable and easy to use. I intend to use the board for more flat water 80/90% of the time with some surfing (smaller waves under head high) Currently riding longboards and will stick to them for surfing really looking for flat water/small waves. The more I read the more I see that might change though. I am 6'2 and 90kg if that helps with any other suggestions
hey rhyno, i've got 25kg on you so need a bit more volume, but i'm a complete rookie and was in the same position as you a month or so ago and ended up having to buy something new because there was nothing suitable for me available second hand at the time. there's a few good beginner boards for sale in the classies on here right now. there's a couple of 11'6 'nalu's and a 'big easy' in there that would fit you bill nicely.
Of the 3 boards you mention the nsp is without a doubt the best value for money by far but not as good a surfer as the 11.4 nalu or as good in the flat as the 11.6 corban. You are certainly not a heavyweight in supstakes by a long shot so something around 11ft is probably quite big enough for you. As you are just getting into the sport though it's a good idea to start out with a good second hand board with a bit of volume in it - even if that means picking up a cheap 11+ board because even though its kinda big for you it will be a great way to learn to paddle and surf small waves and work out where you want to go with the sport (shorter or longer) There are also some very good deals around on new name brand boards for around a grand and just over at the moment so shop around and try a few boards and chase down a bargain.
Thanks for the replies guys. As you say finding a good second hand board could be the go. I have found that as the 2011 boards are comming out that some guys are doing good deals on the 2010's so it will just be a matter of hunting down a good deal. Cheers
If you're in WA I've got a Starboard 10'5 drive for sale including a longer paddle - which are hard to find for taller guys (I'm 6'3 and most of the second hand paddles have been cut down too much). My first board was the 11'2, but I found I grew out of it within 6months. The Drive has almost exactly the same glide as the Blend, but better performance in the waves. It floats me and one of the kids nicely for a cruise. Good Luck Gooch
