ive had futures boards for a while, which always fit nice and snug in the box.
however I went to play around with the stock (4.7" and 4.5") quad fins on my hypernut before which are fcs.
Are fcs1 fins supposed to be pushed hard against the back of the fin box or were they made for the user to alter them forwards or back about 1cm in the box for user preference? The fins screws in this box look like they fit The best about 0.5cm off the back of the box to screw perfectly in to centre of the two fin tabs.

i imagine a cm or 1.5cm further forward or back would make quite a difference in drive or looseness of the board?

Smik boxes are like that as well. I just central mine, but Scotty reckons you can change the performance with it slightly.

I don't remember my other fcs boxes having this much room for movement but it would 100% make a difference between full front and back. Probably even a difference if you had the fronts at the front and backs at the back.

i think one year the starboard pro changed theirs 25 or 30mm and it changed the whole board with drive and hold

wonder how much it would change the hypernut

I've already got infill kits, the fin boxes on my hypernut are fcs1 so the infill kit is useless.

the box just has room to move the fins forward or back. Curious to know if anyone has played around with this and found noticeable difference?

OK so has the Surfinz boxes not like the pro with fcs 2. Moving the fin cluster closer together should make it looser.

No, FCS fin tabs have a small depression in the center of the side where the screw will "lock", preventing the fin to slip out even if the screw comes a tad loose. But it centers the tab in the box, so you do not have adjustability in practice.

But you may have fins with no dimple in their tabs.

You may fill this dimple with resin+microsphere or solarez if you want to adjust them. Otherwise you run the risk of the fin moving and the screw not being in contact with the fin anymore, making the fin wobble.

Hey Colas. I'm not sure I follow, each of the fin 'tabs' has about a 1cm wide indent where the screen can screw in to it. I can still therefore move them forwards / backwards in the finbox and still have the screw contact this area?

Ah, you are right! FCS-branded fins now apparently have this oval hole.



But I realize I only saw the round holes, since FCS fins had them previously, and since then I used only FCSII fins or as compatible fins like C-Drive or Quobba that all have the round hole.

Yeah bingo with the first pic you said, all my fcs fins have this oval indent which means they can really be positioned almost anywhere in the box.

interested to know how it would perform going all forward, all fins back or front fins forward and front fins back or vice versa
