I'm looking for a board that is efficient on flat water but can also catch a small wave. Can anyone comment on whether the Fanatic Stylemaster 10' x 30" will work for this. It is marketed primarily as a surf sup but the volume and lines suggest to me that it would work as a n all rounder. I'm 170 and 66kgs.

The other choice for me is an ECS Evo 10'6.

I think it will work fine for this. Just be prepared that once you catch that first wave it might not see much flat water. Haha

I have not paddled the Evo, but it is hard to imagine you can do better than the stylemaster for a mix of flat water and surf. In my experience it does both quite well in a wide variety of conditions.

Its a good board..love mine..some reviews were not very complimentary about it but still keep it for exactly that purpose flat water and small surf...its a not a radical surf longboard SUP too flat for that ( you learn the hard way) but because it is flat it sure can go fast and still surf as a classic longboard style and if you learn to bring your feet way back still take a steep take off but not its job.. the only down is the paint that is quite fragile on the rails ( mine is an old model release) I use that board when unsure about the conditions really flat or maybe a wee wave..

Yeah easy, at 66kg it will be very stable for you. Plus it's a great board to get into surfing, dead easy to catch small stuff and still fun when swell picks up. Can't comment on the ECS though.

Yeah easy, at 66kg it will be very stable for you. Plus it's a great board to get into surfing, dead easy to catch small stuff and still fun when swell picks up. Can't comment on the ECS though.

Kinda depends on what year stylemaster for me,the previous model was very refined super thin rails and very rolled deck(unstable) imo,fanatic addressed that with there latest model,I have had a good look at it but not paddled it,it looks more user friendly to me the ecs evo looks very good as a starter and family keeper

Thanks for your input everybody. I'm coming off a high volume inflatable and hoping the Stylemaster won't be too much of a jump for me in terms of skill required.

I don't think you will have a problem problem adjusting to the stylemaster from your inflatable. I put several complete beginners on my 2017 LTD edition with no issues. It is the one with the domed deck and low volume rails.

Back about 3 years I considered the Style Master but thought it was a bit heavy so bought an ECS 10ft x 30in Nose Rider, still have it along with my Jimmy Lewis 8 5 Striker.

I use them for surf and occasional flat water with my wife.

I am 76kg, wife a lot less.?

Thanks again. I am now the proud owner of a Fanatic Stylemaster. Took it out on the flat this pm. No problems. Looking forward to some surf.
