Hi all,

Apologies for another Fanatic/newbie thread, but all thoughts will be appreciated. I'm wondering what the real-world differences would be between the 10'6 and 10' Fly, and the HRS vs Pure construction. I'm 5'4, 155 lbs (71ish kg), and I'll be paddling mainly on flat water. I'll do some ocean paddling, but probably no surfing worth mentioning. I'm not sure, but I think there is a fin difference between the HRS and the Pure, 2+1 vs 1.
I know there are several brands worth looking at, but here in the US, the Fanatic is most affordable for me.
My other option would be a 10' or 10'6 Red iSup.

Thanks!

At 71kg you'd be fine on the 10' Fly. That said, if as you say you will be doing mostly flat water cruising and some ocean and you really don't plan to venture into surf, a longer board with a displacement shape might do more for you. Fanatic Ray or 12'6 Falcon if you're limited to Fanatic or just about any other 12'6 in 27"-28" width would be worth a look (and could take you into first waves if you change your mind about that).

If you're leaning towards an inflatable, choose RED Air or ULI. Construction is much sturdier than most inflatables, so they will take more inflation pressure and behave more like a hard board. Again, if you want good flat water performance a longer inflatable board in a flat water/touring shape would serve you better than an allround shape.

Hi, I was in the same boat as you a few months back. I'm 6' 90kgs and find the 10' fly more than enough board. I went with the pure but to be honest probably should have gone for the hrs. The 2+1 would be nice to have and I'm not overly happy with the durability of the pure construction. The outer skin splits at the slightest of knocks, having said that I am fairly heavy so maybe that has something to do with it. I have since demoed a hrs all wave and it seemed much stronger. If you plan on mostly surfing they might be worth a look.

Overall I am very happy with the fly, I'm using it more than any of my prone boards nowadays, I would just go for the hrs if I could choose again.

If you have any other questions I'll do my best to answer them based on my experience with the board.

Can you tell me how well the 10' tracks? What problems are you having with the single fin...I was wondering about 2+1 vs the 1, also.

The board tracks well, no problems paddling on one side for extended periods, the 2+1 I would like more for surfing than anything else.
