Hi guys and girls,
Looking at getting a new SUP in the next month and need some advice.
Im 6'3, 95kgs on a good day, surfed since i can remember and have paddled my 12ft x 30' laguna bay SUP in the river and in small surf for the last couple of years (also have fun fishing on it).
Anyway, i was looking for something fun but maneuverable in small to medium surf. I like the look of the ALLWAVES, just curious what you think about size?
Any suggestions help is appreciated.
Cheers

I'd go the 9ft 1 definitely.

I am 90kg and have the 2013 9ft 6 (now a 9ft 5 and been re-designed) and it is a fun versatile SUP but a bit of a boat if you get my drift. I downsized to a smaller SUP for surfing but still keep the 9ft 6 as a back up. If you have surfed for as long as you suggest you will get a bit frustrated in the surf after a while on the 9ft 5 - you'll want less volume. Go the 9ft 1 - looks a better fit if you ask me.

Cool cheers Slab, that's kinda what i was leaning towards because while I don't want a ultra high performance SUP (I ride my short boards 80% of the time), I also don't want (and cant afford..) to upgraid to a smaller board if I outgrow this one quickly. I guess I was also curious if anyone of a similar size to me had had any trouble jumping on anything smaller than the 9'5 and it feeling to small/to much hard work etc (although by the sounds of it this doesn't seem the case)

I used to prone all the time (longboards and 8ft McCoy Nugget) and had a 12ft SUP which was great to surf on smaller waves but once I dropped down the 9ft 6 Allwave there was no looking back. Really had very little trouble adjusting and once on the wave it felt much more fun....but you'll know being a proner that surfing SUPS feel quite different and soon you want to get back to a more surfboard type feeling...hence the drop down in size. You might have a few fall ins for a month but if you are out regular you'll crack the 9ft 1 very quickly...it is nearly 32 wide so plenty stability for a tall chap like yourself.

Always good to demo of course...just in case...but doubt you will have any issues with balance.

Hey Dino
I agree that the 9'1 would fit your needs, especially since you have a few years experience on SUP.

I'm your weight @ 95kg, but at 5'11, considerably shorter....I surf & flat-water an 8'10 Allwave... plenty of float and stability.

Should have added - be prepared to lose the glide of a 12footer and get the waves a bit later....but not as late as your shortboard

I'm over 100kg and a bit taller than you. I just bought the 8"11 allwave.
It is a absolutely fantastic board! More than enough float, and super fun in the surf

I think you should decide based on the type of waves you will be riding. The 9'6" (or 2014 9'5") would be good for you in average condition and will give you a better platform to catch the waves with more surface area etc. Cleaner waves then the 9'1" would be better but the 9'6" will still be lots of fun.
I'm thinking of getting a 9'5" or a 9'6" pro wave in HRS as they are about the same price.

Cheers AusSup good to have another perspective. I will be mostly using it in average quality sunny coast waves. What made you go for the Pro wave as apposed to the Allwave?

I havent quite made my mind up but I want to upgrade my 2011 Allwave 9'6" and was thinking Pro wave. I probably should have said I have an All wave but want to get a new All Wave or a Pro wave. I was out on my All Wave on Sunday and it was so stable and paddles straight onto the wave. I want a new model with the new style handle and slightly different shape but then I started thinking about the new 9'6" Pro Wave and thought I could handle this. I have used my mates 9'6" by 29 but found it just a bit tippy until you get on the wave. Also quite like the idea of less volume (150 on ProWave cf to 170 on the AllWave) to get caught in the swells etc when you have to bail off when a big swell breaks on top of you. Sorry , don't mean to hijack thread.

I hope you have fun on what ever you choose :-)

All good its all relevant. I have been riding the same sup for few years now(big heavy PU board) and it was old when i got it so I think any of these new models is going to be an improvement for me. Quite often see guys out on the pro waves paddling out prone then standing up out the back so figured they might be abit tippy. They do look fun once on the wave though..
If I was dedicating 100% off my surfing time to SUP i would consider the prowave but for me the ALLwave looks like to much fun, even if its not quite a 'high performance'.

I've not paddled a Prowave but judging by the rocker and template they look better suited for quality/bigger waves IMHO. There is a chap on here "Rockmagnet" who just bought one of the bigger Prowaves at 31 inches or so wide and likes his.

Was looking around and some places are selling the 2013 all wave a lot cheaper than 2014. What are the major differences? Is the 2014 worth the extra 500 bucks?

I'm:98kegs and h#ve never ridden a sup before, I got the 9`1`` all wave 2014 and its fantastic, at 95 I'd be tempted to go 8`11`` if like me you've surfed a fair bit. I've surfed kne e high like this video , waist high and just overhead and I'm not going out on the surfboard again unless its really good!

The 2014 is definitely worth the extra money. I'm 86kgs and ride the 8'11 and it is amazing!!! Super stable and great on the wave. Probably not as performance orientated as the prowave but still a fantastic board and basically just a lot of fun..... which is what I'm after.

Haha nice work slab!
I broke my arm ( radial head fracture) last year and now can't straighten it all the way plus it gives me abit of grief so short boarding has become a frustrating pastime (pushing up and duck diving mainly) so have been sup ing more and more to compensate. ( why 30 year olds shouldn't skateboard! Lol)
