New to the sport and paddling a few months. I have a 2012 Naish Mana 9'5 and had an old no-name 11'6 cheapy that the kids used (40 and 60kg). Just sold it with a view to getting a better board for the kids to paddle and I can use the mana but also I could use as well for downwinds as well.

I see the NSP 12'6 race board is well priced at present. Does a downwind board need to have a pointy nose like the NSP? Would that be OK for the kids to paddle in gentle conditions.

Any views on the MSP and it's pintail compared with the square tails seen on many race boards

I have paddled skis for years and did the Doctor in a ski so am familiar with catching runs. I am 88kg

Yes.. I think they (good DW boards) do need a pointy nose because pearling is a big part of downwinding round noses suck once they go under.. Square tail.. Pin tail.. No biggie IMO .. They both work fine.. The 12'6" NSP should be fine.. as would the 12'6" Naish Glide.. and I think they're about the same price.

New NSP 12'6 going for just over $1000 which is considerably cheaper than I can find the Glide 12'6 anywhere

Having been on one a handful of times now, and the Starby 12'6 Astro, it'd be OK for cruising, training, puddling about in small waves and N1SCO racing (I guess) but I reckon it'd be a brave or foolhardy man to try to downwind on one.
