Im going on a short trip to byron bay for 4 days I didnt think it was worth bringing my own up there for that amount of time just wondering if anyone can give me some advice on sup friendly breaks, also if anyone knows any sup hire places, I have had a look online but havent really found much.
Not sure about hires but Wategos is sup friendly as there are many different peaks on offer. The breaks midway between the Pass and Clarkes is also ok and usually has an insanely fun and fast little right hander as you get near Clarkes. You will see sups out on the pass, but IMO they should not be there and trust me if you get in the way there you will be dealt with very swiftly. Wategos though is just beautiful. What I normally do is park at Clarkes and paddle to Wategoes- which takes about 10 mins. I surf Wategoes and then cruise back past the Pass and get a coupla wide sneaky ones enroute back to the car. Its a good sesh and a very easy paddle - except for a bit of backwash off the rocks at the Pass if you dont paddle wide enough. If you have transport though, Lennox has a thousand lovely uncrowded peaks - and the best bakery for a thousand miles.
