Hi, I have just sold my naish mana 10 ft sup have been surfing on it for 4 years. Looking for some board advice please! Live on Mornington peninsula only sup in the surf, I am 65 kg female 167cm . Want a shorter board but like stability also want something that is light to carry not sure if the really light boards are the way to go ?? Have just tried JP 8'8 32 inch paddles well caught some waves not sure about how manoverable it will be? Have been advised to try the fusion 8'5 30 inch! Any comments advise would be appreciated thanks so much!

Check out something like the 8'5'' or 8'10'' Mana.. [both about 30'' wide] ..or something similar in other brands..

I'm thinking 32'' might be a little wide for someone as light as you..

I have the Naish 8'8" X32 but I am 90 kg so I expect you could go smaller. (My previous board was 9'5".)

You could also look at the Deep Minion - very different shape, but they appear to combine stability with maneuverability (I have a 7'10" on order). If you have an hour or two to spare, read this:

At your weight there are so many options - depends on how much you want to "progress" in one step and what style of surfing you enjoy.

What DJ suggests would be a good next step from where you are and the Minion (Vangaurd) shapes also mentioned would be a step further along again. That's where the style of surfing you enjoy might help make a choice - the Manas at your weight would be similar to what you're used to just easier to turn/control and carry. The Minion would be a different experience, shorter boards mean less glide and more swapping over on paddle strokes (no drama once you're used to it), it would also mean taking off later and with very little swing weight they would surf quite different to what you're used to. If you aim is performance surfing then this might be the option to look at.

If you can demo a few different boards that would help - there is an Airborne 7'10" x 31.5 98l on the buy and sell section also down your way which may be worth trying to tee up. That will give heaps of stability be much lighter and they surf pretty well too.

My two cents worth
Go and have a chat to the Triggers about a custom option
They've been in the business long enough to know what works and what doesnt and should be able to come up with something suited specifically to you.
Phill has probably put the most time in on SUPs so try and have a chat with him...dont let some flash as a rat shop store dummy talk you into buying something off the rack that was put together for the masses and not specifically for you, your ability level and the waves you like to surf.

the asking permission is a no brainier..... That would be a no for her so the board with be got, I will just do what I did the last time, feign ignorance.
