Gday all

Am new to sup and am looking to purchase a board and paddle to use in smallish type waves down here in victoria,ride and glide style,nothing serious just a bit of fun.Am looking for something that floats me,has stability,glides along ok and will catch some small waves easily.Not looking for a touring type board.

Background is 45yo 5'10 and 90kgs,have hired inflatables and hardboards before just to cruise around on flatwater and am an intermediate windsurfer.

Have had a good read and a bit of a look around and have 2 that interest me

Naish Mana 9'5 32"wide 163ltr and JP Fusion 10'2" 32"wide 170ltrs

As for a paddle was thinking a 2 piece Fanatic carbon 80

Have the Naish Mana and gets a tick from me as a great board to get going on.

I have a 9'5" Mana and it would work well for you.. and alsoI have an 11' Nalu and that would work even better for you at 90 kgs.

also you should consider the Naish 10'8" Quest.. It's somewhere in between the two.

I'm in Melb so if you need a quick demo you're welcome to try mine.

Got it.. and re the paddle.. I'd recommend a fixed length paddle over an adjustable paddle any day unless you're sharing it with someone else who's a different height..You're also welcome to try one of my adjustable paddles to check for correct length if you decide to go with fixed.

The mana doesn't have a sail insert.the Gt nalu does.you will be fine will the nalu width.as the length gives you the stability.Great boards.I like the 10-8 I.m 97kgs.

Re the paddle,would like to go fixed length,buy something decent and look after it,but will have to share with wife and teenage son,but saying that I want to use this board primarily down at DJ's beach and another beach up the road,10% of the time will be for the wife and boy just mucking around on a hot summers day at a local bay beach or floating around on the river,I don't think they would notice a difference in paddle length.

Re width and length,have never prone surfed before and I think I am stuck in my windsurf mentality of short and fat,can remember 30 years ago sailing the old tyronsea at 3.3m,long skinny barge that was hard to turn but could float 3 x 100kg blokes,got back into windsurf 5 years ago and everything had changed all for the better and so much easier to use.

Re windsup,doesn't have to be but being able to do it would just be a big bonus and open up more opportunity especially for the wife and teenager,was originally going to buy a bigger windsurf board for light wind conditions but came across windsup and liked the idea of being able to have a go at something different and get more time in or on the water,just love it,rain wind or shine.

Nah. I was a rank beginner last winter and 30" wide was fine on the Nalu. Once you learn not to stick the nose in the longer boards are more forgiving to crappy paddling, more stable and more manoeuvrable on the wave for beginners. The transition to <10" and 32" wide was harder than I expected.

nice board and yes I would recommend the board, its a good start and the price could be better

According to their site THE ONE range is the most forgiving range we got. These boards have the most all-round usable features of all our boards. Flatwater or surf, stability and comfort. It is a great first board or used by women as well as men. Or goal with this ONE was to get every-ONE into the water.
