Always thought a pintail would be ideal on this board shape, without owning any previous models.
anyone tried the new one? I had a look at the 8'2 yesterday, looked nice! Intrigued to know how it would compare for stability and performance against the Jl stun gun?

Haven't surfed the stun gun but can compare the 8'8 latest model spitfire to lots of boards. Compared to a Smik Hipster 8'3 more stable but not as loose. Compared to my 8'8 X 30 custom hipster more stable but not as loose and not as much glide. Compared to starboard hypernut 8'4 not as stable but more control on bigger waves. I could go on to lots of other boards but for all around performance and stability it's one of the best boards I've owned. Pintail works great.

Awesome thanks for the info! How does it turn compared to the hipster? I've heard it's pretty sharp turning? Also how does it go in softer, fatter waves?

I haven't tried a hipster, wish I could to see how it compares to my jimmy Lewis 7'9 worldwide,
which is also quite loose but a much more pulled in nose vs the hipster

I also ride the 8'8" new Smik Spitfire, which I have owned for around 6 months now. I have had a couple of the previous model spitfires and also a Smik Hipster. The new pintail Spitfire is absolutely awesome ! I like the pulled in nose and tail for more surfboard type performance and dropping into steeper waves. This is a definite keeper !

Nice one! How different is it compared to the prior spitfires? Much more agile? Stability?

Both boards work in soft fat waves but they have a different feel. To me the spitfire feels more like a traditional surf board while the hipster brings something new to the table. There just feels less drag and yet they turn on a dime and those big twins give real acceleration on the turn. I love the control of the spitfire too though. You can't go wrong either way.
