8'10 Hammer but ill be trying 8.8 soon.The board has a whole new life if you can get back foot to the kick.Enjoy and using standard fins.

Hi Dools. I am the same as you - 50 years old x 85kilos. You can't go wrong with an 8'8" Speeed, it is my go to board in most conditions. I ride a lot of crappy short period, windy, shallow, choppy reef breaks, If I where surfing clean perfect waves everyday I would probably like to try the 8'5". The board paddles very well, has heaps of glide and has a very compliant feel - like an old polyester surfboard. The board surfs well off the middle and absolutely charges off the tail and as demonstrated by Lucyloo nose rides very nicely.

Hi Flowmaster no the 9.2 is a great board.My mate next door has it and ive enjoyed riding it.We are very spoiled here to surf clean waves out front pretty regularly so i am able to stick to the cleaner days.It sounds like the 9.2 would always be a board of use in your tricky conditions but as proven by Hilly great photos,dont be afraid to try smaller speeds if you can get the chance.Correct about the strenghth, they are amazing,so far touch wood.Really good to see and hear of other sunovians having a ball.Keep in touch and stay ripping Flow

one thing I wonder about with this board is how does it surf from the Middle? Does it sometimes feel too straight when turned from the mid section, how do you go pumping for speed as you need to be in the middle or a bit forward but still be able to really turn the board, does it only turn really tight if you get your foot right back?

Hi Jacob the speed will generate plenty in the back half imo.Most of the time to my dissapointment i turn the board from front of pad and it does well but when i get onto that pad and kick area its another level.This board has enabled me to make many sections i would not have made on previos boards,could be different for others but the 5 speeds amongst our sunovians report same comment.Cheers

Thanks Tino i was loving the speed so much for the power surfing side of it but i missed the longboard tricks so i thought hey why not and guess what the speed was all over it, bloody cracker design.

A few on the beachies

Ive only had one go on my brothers 7'11" speed as he never wants to give it up. Finally he gave me a go the other day in 2-3ft clean waves. I swapped my Gulliver Vbox 7'6" and had no problem balancing even tho the speed is a bit narrower. I was BLOWN away with the speed it generated. Did one of the best floaters ive done on a sup cause I had so much speed I just skipped over the section. Only got half a dozen waves but were suitably impressed. One thing I did find is that you have to get put your foot right at the back to do good turns and found myself searching for the back which seemed further than normal, but I'm sure after a few surfs it would be normal.

If you have read the other Sunova Speeed post..i pulled the trigger on a 8'5 after reading all the feedback and advice. Ordered and coming. Im around 86/87kgs and think this was the right choice over the 8'2. The 8'2 might have won if i was surfing glassy conditions all day long but in reality that rarely happens . Im thinking of putting c drive fins in ..Large side bites and a medium centre fin. Anyone else have tried these?..a mate of mine said this set up was the best combo he's riden on his 8'5
