Hi Guys, Just wanted to get some advice on a all round 14ft er. I have been surfing SUP for a while now and love it. I have been getting a lend of a 10'6" and 12ft board for doing some long distance and river runs.

I am now pretty hooked on the idea of getting myself a 14ft er. My mates and i just did a fantastic 12 klm paddle up a river with all our gear in drums in front or between our feet. We camped over night, drank a lot and then the 12klm back again. One of the best 2 days on a board and laugh i have had in ages.

What i would like to get is a board that i can Downwind, tour up rivers and if i get keen enough even enter a race or two.

I was told about the Corebane Alpha 14ft would be great for all these??

Most of the time i am on a PSH Hull ripper 8"9 so ther is no balance issues really.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Just about anything more than 27.5" wide and with good volume I reckon. If you want to race, a displacement nose is probably going to be faster. You can add ezi plugs/bungee straps afterwards so have a think about where you want to put your gear and where you would stand if it was loaded. e.g. if it narrow up front, then you're going to have to put the gear behind you and stand forwards on the tippy section to counterbalance which wouldn't be so great.

Depends somewhat on what size you are but the coreban alpha 14 isn't the most stable board, not sure I'd want to carry gear on it at any size. I reckon a 2011/12 Starby Coast Runner or Open Ocean would do everything you want, if you can find a good pre-loved one. Not the fastest racer but good DW and a really nice cruiser

Otherwise as Snowie says, a wider 14 like Fanatic Falcon 30" or Starby 14' x30" touring (a super nice board), maybe even the 14' Laird Coast Runner?

If you like PSH their 14er is good fun

The 14' Jamie Mitchell Navigator by Surfyech does everything well.

So many good ones now.

If I had to pick one it would be the 14' Glide..

Like DJ said; there are heaps of contenders. It's all down to personal preference and trialling as many as you can!! For what it's worth I'm on a 14x25 starboard Allstar and I love it so far.
My other personal choice would be the fanatic falcon.

there are lots of great 14's. test a heap. i have a 27 falcon... i like it but im heavy. the starby's are quick and seem to be built well, but from my tests are probably suited to lighter guys... maybe except for the ace.. its a bit more volumous... just saw a nsp cocomat thingy today... it looked sweet. a m8 has a sic and goes well on it...

i think u get the point, there are SO many good boards. demo some, then demo some more.

Thanks Snowie great advice. On the way up the river with my drum full of gear i road a 10'6 x 32 wide and i could even sit on the drum and paddle very easy. On the way back i was on the 12ft that was 29 wide and i dad the drum just in front but still no problem. The only issue was the 10'6 had a rolled deck so made i much more difficalt but the 12ft had a flat deck easy??? But my mate used a dry bag and that looked even easier but could not fit to much into it.

I paddled a Tahoe SUP on Lake Tahoe last year and can confirm that they are an amazing board in the conditions on the lake. I paddled the Rubicon and loved the glide and the stability. Never paddled one outside of the lake but judging by this video, I think they'd go alright.
Would love one, but not yet available here.
