G day guys was wondering if i could get some guidance from some experienced suppers.
My problem is i have been thinking of buying a smaller board as the sup i`m using at the moment is a Starboard Avanti which is
the same size as a fishing trawler . Its been a great board and i will never sell it but i have been supping now for almost 8 months as often as i can and feel that its time to gradually make the progression to a smaller more surf friendly board.
The board i was after was a Fanatic Allwave 9,10 but the dealers close to me only have the 9,1 in stock. i think the difference in
capacity is about 30 liters which could make a big difference as i`m 6`3 and 110 kegs. my question is do i follow my head and
order the 9`10 which could be a month in the waiting or go the 9`1 and hope i haven`t bitten off more than i can chew.
Is there a massive difference between the two?

I started on an Avanti 4 odd years ago, size wise I could be your twin (if you a young stud that is)
I went to a Allwave 9.6, great stable board, surfs pretty good for what it is.
About 6 months ago I got a allwave LTD carbon, 9.5, fraction less stable, maybe not as good on glide but in the waves its unreal, it has raised my skill level, then I put a quad set in and its better again.

Im not sure why you have the option of a 9.1 and a 9.10 ? the 9.5 LTD is 32.25 wide and 170L, I think the 9.1 is 160L.

I demoed a 9.1 and found it hard to get board speed and I was missing waves.

Go with you head and wait for the right board but im not sure why there would be a months wait, I was in a shop on Friday and im pretty sure they had the full range of Allwaves.

I feel that each size in the Allwave line is a geometric difference.

I would not advise you to settle for the 9'1.... I think you might be unhappy at this stage in the game.

The 9'10 would be super stable and easy for you, but the 9'5 would have plenty of float.

I went from an Avanti to a 9'6 Allwave at pretty much your weight or a bit heavier. It was the version with the wider nose so it was really stable... (the new nose is a bit more pulled in)

I was comfortable on the 9'5 the first time I stepped on it. Plus is surfed really well and handled any conditions with ease.

I am a massive fan of my 9'6 Allwave (@ 100kg).
Even though I also have a lower volume SUP for those bigger cleaner days, I still use my 9'6 heeeeeps...... any time the wind comes up, its lumpy or wobbly, or I just want to have a chilled surf, the 9'6 Allwave comes out of the shed.

Oh yeah, it also surfs pretty good - you can get your back foot over the fins and do some nice cutties and stuff, or if you like you can nose ride it longboard style (although not sure if the new version of the Allwave allows this so much).


Glad I didn't go too small, it's worth having something with a little float

Hi guys, I'm also in the process of looking at Allwaves, mainly because I can find more 2nd hand ones in qld. I'm 70kgs so I was thinking a 9.1 would be a good start?

I started out on an 11'6 Fanatic fly which could be said is comparable to size and 'floatiness' of the Avanti. I soon outgrew that and downsized to a 9'10 Allwave which was an awesome board. In now have a 9'5 Allwave and will probably stay with that size for quite a while. I am 6'4 and a little less than 110kg now but was much heavier when I had the Fly. I wouldn't personally go to the 9'1 after having had the Avanti, it would be a massive struggle. The 9'10 would be the next step down for a board that will be an easy transition. The 9'5 is probably what you would end up on after a couple months of good use on the 9'10 but might be a steeper learning curve coming off such a big board as the Avanti.

spoke to a supplier in melbourne and was informed that it could be september before i can get my hands on a 9:10.
May as well order the 9:1 as well as i should be ready for lt by that time .

Have you shopped around to see if someone has a 9'10" in stock? Or is there a different brand/model you could look at? 9'1" and 110 kg could be a bit of a challenge, especially if you are coming from a fishing trawler.

yea was thinking maybe jp fusion or sb whopper. See a lot of guys with the jp boards . is there a naish equivalent to this style of board?

I am going from a 10 foot Naish Mana to. 8'11 Allwave. I'm 185 cm and 82 kg and found the 9'1 really good but decided on the 8'11 to stretch myself

pick it it up tomorro so hope the weather for Easter is bett than predicted

I think the 8'11" would be a much better choice for your weight Lee.

Naish have the 10' Mana that would be the equivalent.
