Yes aren't the jimmys built well. I bought another major brand in an. 8 6 to replace a 9 9 Mano and after two weeks in Bali it looks like ****e. I punished the Mano for 3 years.

I didn't say where I bought it, I posted that link because it showed the construction, but BTW have you got them in yet?, you didn't have them when i left did you?.

Oh and I am in the market for a 14' race SUP just not sure which brand/retailer I will go with yet......decisions, decisions.... i am narrowing down the list though.

Having just seen the Stun Gun in the flesh so to speak at Jankie's Kitesurfbali shop in Sanur, I have to say they are a thing of beauty, with a high gloss finish that looks fast standing still. To my eye it has a similar profile/rocker line to a Starboard Widepoint except that it is substantially thinner in terms of volume. I'm in the market for a board that still turns well, but has good speed down the line to beat the breaking part of the wave. So on paper at least the 9' 2" x 30 1/4" looks the goods over my SB Widepoint.
If you happen to read this Riverrider, can you confirm yours is the 8' 2" Stun Gun, as your feedback would be appreciated.

Hey Brad6, I ended up with the 8'7",thought the extra length would come in handy I the small waves, only been on it once so far in less than waist high at stooges, showed moments of potential but the waves were just to small to really tell.the usual 20 minute paddle to stooges on my 12'6" took 25 on the stungun so I am happy with the way it paddles and was very easy to get on waves, next time your down this way let me know and you can have a go.

Are these stun guns in need of juice and push to perform , i ride a custom 8'0 performance laguna bay , looking for a bigger wave board , thought 8'2 might be a bit small for bigger waves , shape and width seems perfect , where the 8'7 gets a little wide - but it probably is spot on with that low rail - surfs narrower than what it is . any feedback appreciated

Had the chance to ride my 8'7" Stungun in some good waves now, it's fast, light and you can put it anywhere you want, the only thing that holds these back is the riders ability.i doesn't really come alive until its chest high, but when it does you certainly know it!

ive had a couple of surfs with rr over the weekend and he is going great on the new stun gun
the board has heaps of speed down the line and looks realy sharp in turning
overall a good looking board with performance as well.

surf was pretty small today, waist height so i popped in the nubster together with the standard Jimmy Lewis quad setup, it made all the difference, gives the board that extra drive it needs to get going when its small, this is a fantastic board in anything shoulder height or above but i was having trouble getting it to go in the smaller stuff that you have to surf sometimes.I never thought the board was designed for the small stuff so i was never really worried that it didn't go that well, but thats fixed now, no need to drag out the 10' when its small anymore.

Just got back from a great trip East..
I got to surf some of my best waves ever in Sumbawa and Lombok.
The SG 8'7 performed so good in all sizes of waves..
My set up is pure thruster with Future fins. I use 4,5 inches in up to shoulder high and anything bigger I put 5 inches.

I know for sure that I will get for myself an 8'2 but I like so much the security that the 8'7 give me in the line up and still it rips..

One thing that I notice is that with the SG you need to cut right away after the drop as board accelerate so fast that if you go straight down the wave you find yourself to far in front! Really like a regular small surf board.

Riverider: I have been wondering about this board in small waves. For a comparison how much do you weigh? I am 135lbs and was thinking of the 9'2". In my emails with Jimmy he says it may not be very good for me unless the waves have more juice to them. I am more likely to stay on smaller waves so the Striker 8'11" might be better. Any thoughts from your perspective?

Hi John, I come in at 150lbs so you would find the 8'7" pretty easy I recon, I'd depends whether you want to ride short board style, go the stun gun or long board style go the striker, I can't really comment on the striker though as I have never ridden one, but I would say the stungun would be more high performance.

If I may as I have ridden all the boards..

Striker is a nose rider style board not very fast.
135 pounds is 61 kilos so you will be more then well on the 8'7..
But my choice if you are talking of small waves (pretty much under head high) would be the Kwad 8'7.
It still perform also in bigger waves but in smallish onshore conditions really shine.

I am thinking of switching from my Fanatic All Wave 8'10'' to Stun Gun 8'7''. The volume difference is quite substantial but I heard stun gun is quite stable. I weigh about 80kg. Is it a good idea or should I consider 9'2" instead?

8'7" won't be a problem, I'm 75kg with a bit of winter fat on and don't have any hassles at all, got a mate the has ridden my that is pushing 90kg and he didn't find it hard at all.

110kg and ride the 9 2 so you will be fine on the 8 7

These boards are strong and ride really well in all types of waves. Stoked with mine

I weight 85kg and got the 9'2" because I also thought the volume might be an issue. Have since bought the 8'7" and no issues at all.

The guy at Newcastle was more worried about his clubby boards , shame , shame , they looked solid , got a faster board coming the new jp , construction is great on the gun I have , low rails , and smaller sizes.

They advertise on the "Stand up zone " in the USA (They're a a Canadian company apparently). With the good exchange rate again it might be cheaper to import from Canada again? Just a a thought. It doesn't cost anything to send them an email. It was only going to cost me $350.00 to import a L41 SimSup from Santa Cruz (USA) a couple of months ago. it would have made it $1800.00 all up. Cheaper than some of the pop outs that you can buy here. I really respect Hilly's opinion and he definitely knows what he's talking about. Take his advice and I'm sure you won't regret it.

Hi G Man, nah I ended up falling in love with a TSJ Laguna Bay 8'10"x31 Executive. I'll attach the link again. If TSJ made them over here I might go one. He is going to put 5 fin boxes in mine so I can run it as a quad or Thruster. That's the beauty of buying locally made customs. TSJ, DC, Deep, DTM (and apologies to all the others I missed out,) are all super professional and talented. The price of customs are around the same as a pop out, so its a no brainer!! Get the plan shape o f an L41 SimSup and ask one of the guys to shape one, why not??

That sounds like a good idea! Now I have been searching around on the internet for plan shapes but to no avail. Can anyone assist in this regard.

I saw a photo over on standupzone that was a 7'5x28x4.25. Quite a unique shape really.
