I have been paddling a friends sup on the lake for a month and yesterday ventured into the surf - waist high beach break. Live on mid north coast of nsw and intend to surf mostly beach breaks to about head high - maybe bigger if there is a good rip. I vary between 84 and 88 kilos and am 62 yo, so I surf a la "morning of the earth" not mal but not zipping all over the wave - more speed and nice roundhouse cutties with a rare barrel when possible 6 OR 7 OUT OF 10 -as a surfer(mates estimate) 2 OUT OF 10 - as a sup surfer two other sup riders estimate - asked for their opinion while out there. boards I have read about

starboard 9'5" 32" widepoint 155L
coreban 9'6" 29.5 performer 153 bit narrow?
naish 9'10 30.25 hokua 155
psh 9'11" 31 ripper 145

more into cruising smoothly than ripping - which is best?

regards Steve

The new 9'10" Hokua gets my vote.. I want one.

A board like the 9'5" Mana might also be worth checking out.

Isn't there a pretty good Fanatic in that size range and I've heard the new 9'1" Starboard is good.

Hi

Do not under estimate the Jimmy Lewis Kwad.

I am a wisker off 66 years and have both 9' 1" and 8' 7" Kwad and for the last 6 months only ride the 8 7.

I range from 76 to 80 kg and rate also by others as a 2 or so out of 10. I have been SUPping for a little over 12 months.

Just try what u can but for me u will not be sorry on a JL Kwad

Good selection all 4 fit the bill , first impression when you stand on the board is a good guide , all 4 boards will surf but if you are after glide for cruising the Naish and the PSH will definitely paddle better. The Starboard and Coreban will be more responsive on waves but the slick outline of the PSH will also do this.

I've spent a bit of time on the Coreban 9-6 and found it's a good mix of stability and performance , plenty of foam for your size , don't be spooked by the width the fuller mid rails combined by the nose and tail width balance this board out nicely. Corebans run extra rocker and nose/tail lift , to let a 153 litre board still turn on a dime.

Just try before you by

live bout 3 hours from gold coast , any sup shops with these boards as demos up there, could make a weekend of it and catch up with mates as well
