hi guys im looking at getting a downwind/ race board and was wondering what width to go for . i was looking at the fanatic falcon 14 foot either 27.5 or 30 wide. ive paddled a 11 foot 30 wide no worries in the flat but looking to get in to down winders and a little bit of racing

any help would be great

If you want it for dw paddling go the 27 if its 2014 model as its very good dw the 30 wide is the 2013 shape which is good but no where qs good as the 2014.

I'm only new to sup but I've just done what your planning...sold my 12'x31"x4.5" mal style sup and brought a second hand Deep 12'6x27.5" for flatwater and ocean, hopefully a few downwinders and racing eventually. I've found the race board to be initially a bit tippier but the higher volume rails stop it from rolling to far. Demoing will probably be your best bet to work out if the narrower board has the stability your after. Like Paul says only the narrow boards are the new shape and they do look sweet, if I had the pennies I'd have a red board instead of a blue one...
