Beau O'Brian stopped by SURF FX and went over some of the differences and changes in the 2015 Starboard Race and Allstar.

Will the 2015 all star 14' x 28 be blue/green? or the same as 2014 blue/orange as it is the same board

The blue / green is the 2015 glass version. The reddish orange with the white fade in the tail is the 2015 brushed carbon version.

I'm pretty keen on the 14' Allstar.

Currently riding a 14' x 26" DC and have no problem with stability.

However, the Allstar comes in 25" or 28" widths - do I go for the 25" or wider with the 28"?

I'm assuming the Allstar with it's single to double concave and harder edge at the 25" width would have better stability than the DC 26"?

28" width of the Allstar just seems too wide for what i've been used to riding.

I'm 6'1" and 95kg

Any advice would be most welcome

IMO it depends on your paddling conditions..

If you're ok on your 26'' DC I think you'll be fine on the 25'' Allstar.. btw.. I'm your weight and I'd choose the 28 for sure..

So what are the pros/cons of choosing say the 25" over the 28" and vice-versa in the 14' version of the Allstar?

IMO Starboard really should have had a 26" or 27" board in this range.

Primary conditions paddled are downwinders in 2ft windswell along with some flat water bursts.

I like the feel of the 26" width and just thought that 28" would be a backward step in some way and feel too bulky.

I've paddled both the 2013/2014 14x26.5" Allstar and the 2015 14x25" Allstar and the 2015 25" is just as stable as the 26.5".
I'd give the 25" a go. It's a very nice board to paddle.

@Kieranr - what height/weight are you?

I'm approx 4'8" and about 74kg. I wouldn't put too much faith in comparing height and weight with others as its all relative to the individual paddler and their skill set.
to put it in perspective one of our paddling crew who's probably about 80 - 85kg and about 6ft reckons the 25" Allstar feels more stable than the current 27" Ace in the ocean.
Another one of our crew who is 90 - 95kg found the 25" Allstar fine on flat but would prefer his 2013/14 28" Allstar in the ocean.
Best thing you could do is get a demo.

Hi guys,i have just done a 2km flat water race on the 14x28'' and it was amazingly fast and super easy to ride. I beat a guy on a new 14 Javelin Full Carbon and it seemed that i had more speed on the Allstar 28. I am 80kg and just got into SUP Racing finishing my first 2km race last weekend and I was stoked to finish in 2nd behind Andy Yates :)We also got a 14x25 which i have been using in the Ocean. I am struggling with stability in 15-20knts choppy conditions especially when waves come from the side. On the 28 i got no dramas at all. Hard to tell the speed different in the Ocean between the 14x25 and 14x28. Some of our guys reckon the 25 is a lot quicker but i am not sure.

....and others like the new Ace in the Ocean over the other two. You have to try everything.
