I recently had the opportunity to ride the Starboard 8'10"x32"widepoint thanks to Surfrod. The construction was the silver AST,and is 151 litres in volume. I am 180cm tall and 95kg. The board paddles very well for its length as you would imagine at 32"wide, there is no problems stroking into waves from further out to sea, you don't necessarily need to sit right on the suck to grab your share of waves. Stability should not be an issue for anyone with 2 legs it's like standing on the ground. I found the weight of the board good especially dropping into waves with strong off shore conditions, I know there are lighter constructions available with this brand but you would need to take a second mortgage to purchase them, and i like the deck pad where as the carbon has startouch. I surfed the board in sucky head high beach break conditions and it performed well, the only issue i had was with the volume in relation to my body weight, i feel this board would better suit riders of 100kg plus as it was difficult to sink a rail when you put the board on it's edge on cranking out more serious turns. all in all a great addition to the quiver if you're a solid mother

If you cant bury the rail on an 8'10" at 180 and 95, ( I'm 185 and 97) then why dont they build an 8'6" and 32 wide I've been thinking about demoing one, but it seems that my 10'2" x 33 PSH Paddler has more rail to rail ability than the Widepoint. (probably because it weighs a touch under 250 kg!!!). Is it in the rail design? I've noticed that the Paddler sits very low in the water but is still very stable and turns on a dime. I don't find it corky at all. By the way are the Paddlers built out of Epoxy or Ferro Cement? Gee's I'm funny just ask me!! Due to back problems I WANT SOMETHING STABLE OUT THE BACK THAT RIPS IN WAVES FROM 2 ft to 6 ft, is it really that hard???!!!

I was thinking of giving the W point 8'10" a go to see if it was loose for its size but yeh seems like I would need to put some Kgs on. Iam 84kg I was looking at it for stabillity out the back in rip/chop. Without the wobbles or going for the dive every few minutes. Have to think again?

its definately a board for 100 kegs plus. me being 110kegs i bury the rail with ease and some but it would be very corky for those in the welter weight division.

OK, Rodders, thanks for the heads up! Do you reckon that a 100 keg odd would have stability out the back and the looseness in the surf?

leroy, you will love this board if you are after stability waiting for the waves. then as manouvrability goes,for me its like surfing a short board half the time i dont even need the paddle to hack a roundhouse cut back. re-entries all round awesome board for big blokes with the surfing abilities.
