Hello friends,
my shipment of the new JL landed about 1 week ago and I already had a chance to try the new Shredder 9'4 and 9'9.

My previous used board was the JL Surf 9'8.
IN the past I have owned: Bonga 10'0 - Starboard 9'0 - 9'8 ' - 10'3 all the series of JL surf 9'8 - 10'0 - 10'4 - 10'8.

I recently tried the PSH Ripper 9'3 and the Jerry Lopez 8'10.
The JL Shredder 9'4 definitely enter in the same category of the last 2 boards.

All of them are great once on the wave! Is hard for me to tell witch one is better as is not the board to limit the performance but the rider. I felt that the JL give you a bit more of speed down the line but could have been just the different conditions.

What difference them is quite allot is the ability of gliding in flat water and when you have to paddle to catch a wave.
The JL glide much better and getting in the wave is way easier then the other 2 boards. I would say same at least the same as the JL Surf 10'0.. (just to give you an idea)... Also I felt more stable and at ease on the board even when stationary.

The JL 9'9 is also a very good board once on the wave is very loose and turn well.
Almost felt no difference on the 9'4 but been a bigger board is way easier and more stable.. I'm my opinion is as easy as the SB 9'8 but with another level of performances. As easy of use, stability and glide I will compare to the JL Surf 10'4.

Construction the usual JL + the carry handle that was really missing.

I like more the old pad with the platform in the middle but I guess here you can use more the rails and move easier the feet everywhere on the board.

Mano in Italian mean "Hand"!!!
Not really hot for a SUP board...
I'm 72 kilos and I have someone up to 80 kilos paddling the 9'4 without much problems.
If someone is on the 90s then the 9'9 is the way to go.

I'm now very excited about the 9'0..

ALoha Janke, just wanted to comment on the word Mano. Its the hawaiian word for shark. Probably in reference to his shark logo.

yes I knew that and it does make sense. But Shredder is more appropriate for this board as give you the idea of what can do.

Just read in another tread that now Naish is making a board with the name Mana!!!
Is that the female of the shark ???

I had few more days with the Mano "Shredder" 9'4 and I can really tell you that this board is amazing....
I had a day at Mini Pipeline when the wave where super sucky ans super late/vertical take of... No probs...
Yesterday at Kuta Reef got some super wave in off shore wind conditions.. Much better to have a pointy nose board in strong wind..

And today at Sanur Blue Reef left... WOW.... So good.
I'm so happy and I want everyone to know.

received my new 9'4' 3 sessions into it it have come up with this. they rock im 84 kg and have been riding the 10 '0 surf series scince christmas.first impression was short lived ,ithought the board was over rockerd and the board was never going to go,it was only 1 ft. next sessions were in over head fast peeling back hand waves the board came to life racing down the line gouging top turns and big floaters across a foaming lip hoots from the crowd and im stoked.fitted the fins off the10'0 ,small thrusters and 1 large single boomerang seem to improove its drive and keep its momentum through the turns. stability at 28'' is fine im used to the 10'0 riding up and over waves is ablast with the pointy nose.only dissapointment is its paint job.looks like something out of the circus, yellow red and blue. happy shredding. nice 1 jimmy.

I like it!
But yes some of the colors combinations are a bit over the top.

Yeah it seems that some people love the Mark Richards style Mano spray and others dislike it.

Seems that it depends more on the colour combinations than the actual design, I personally like my Bob Marley combo of red, yellow and green.

Jimmy's Japanese importer wasn't too into the MR spray either and asked for an alternative one to be done up (see below) for that market which Jimmy did.

So now the Mano will be available in both these sprays.

It will be up to individuals to get in early and request what they want.

Hey Jankie! I'm about your same weight and trying to decide between the JL Surf 10' or the 10' 4". I've only been into SUP for about a month but have been kiteboarding/surfing, wakeboarding/surfing for a couple years. I have an NSP 11' that I really like but want to get a second board. I want to concentrate on waves but I'm in the Gulf Coast of Florida so those waves are usually small and mushy. I occasionally paddle in flat water, but I want the board I choose to be like 80% for waves. So which size should I get? 10ft or 10'4"??

10'0 was my first board you adapt very quikly it goes great even in the smallest of waves has plenty of glide and will be easyer to ride over waves and will surf beter when on the wves the 10' is lighter than yhe 9'4mano .

Yesterday I had a guest that use the 10'0 that is about 90 Kilos and no problem.
I was surprise and asked him to jump on my 9'4 Mano to see if he could manage.
I was not able to stand on it.
I went on the 10'0 and I felt like I was on a ship...

So the 9'4 Mano is the equivalent to the 9'8 Surf.. Not the 10'0 like I said earlier.

The 9'4 looks awesome. I'm up to 90 kg (200 lbs) and wonder if 9'0 would be too small for me. Any advice?? I have larger boards for choppy/semi-choppy days, an inflatable ULILopez for travel, and a 10'0 Al Merrick quad for semi clean days. Looking for something small and rippable for better days in Florida. Thanks!

Depending on your sup experience and ability I reckon you could go either the 9'0" or 9'4" Mano.

I am 88kg/194lbs and ride the 9'0" no problems.

It is a bit wobblier than the 9'4" in onshore conditions though.

Every drop in Sup size causes a transition phase for a couple of weeks then the new size becomes the norm and is all you know.

Best bet would be to demo both of them.

Thanks Courts! That was the advice I was looking for! 9'0 would mainly be for days with good-great conditions, as I can go to other boards in the quiver for wind/chop/etc. Here's a pic from this morning on my 10'0 in semi-chopppy 8-10 kt side shore winds...

Hey Cranky,

All the JL Boards (Mano's included) are made using the sandwich construction method.

It's a styro core with a layer of PVC (Divinicell) top and bottom.

There is a layer of 4oz UNDER the PVC, with an extra 6oz under the stance/deck surfing area - about 5 feet long.

The bottom then has a layer of 6oz on the outside and the top has a layer of 6oz and a layer of 4oz for its outer skin.

Then there is another patch of 6oz on the deck in the stance/surfing area.

As luck would have it, JL distributor out of Miami is having demo sessions today and tomorrow in my area. That must be a sign or something! They're bring the 9'9 Mano so I'll at least get a feel for the range.

Had a surf on the 9 9 in small waist high waves.

In a word - impressive.

I am 105kg and had no problems balancing on it.

It was outstanding in the small waves, I think the mistaken name Shedder is very accurate. Real shortboard turns I was really able to whip it around.

Nice weight for a moulded board. Beautiful finish with the kicktail in exactly the right place as my foot was right on it.

Only con was I stuck my front foot in the handle hole a few times.

Will see you in a couple of weeks Courts to try one in bigger surf.
