Hi All, I am thinking of purchasing a 1st sup for my wife (and I)

Looking for an allrounder to be used for crusing in the ocean/river and some small wave surfing.

We are both just under 6ft and 75kg - 90kg.

I will probably purchase a more surf orientated board down the track so happy for this to be a fun/family board.

A few people have recommended the Whopper (10' or the 9'5 version).

Appreciate any quick advice and thoughts.

Cheers

Yes they are good .they are big wave boards and wide for stability .
also 10.8 naish Quest .or 10.6 ,11' nalu ....long board s paddle faster and have a good glide .
also easier to catch small waves .will be nicer in the river.if doing longer distances.
the quest is cheaper.
there are so many boards out there to choose from ...it can be confusing .9.8 Quest is another great firsty.

happy ... shopping .

I posted this elsewhere but just in case you missed it.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Naish Nalu. I've got a 10'6 Nalu and fitted a good set of thruster fins and it's really fun in the surf and on flat water. Very stable with good glide and manoeuvrability which is what you need for an allrounder. Its been around a while and has been copied by other board makers.

For a 1st SUP, I always recommend at least 10' x 32" wide, to make it easy and fun to learn.

Volume is not as important a width IMO.

If you pick a good board, it will be a keeper.... even if you eventually go shorter, it is good to have a bigger board for the small or choppy days.

Hobie ATR , great all-rounder to start with. Great construction. Not to heavy and well priced. I have 4 boards now , this was my first. I still love riding it. Well worth a look. The 12'4 venture is excellent too.

How about the 9'5" Jimmy Lewis Striker...Perfect all-round board that you'll have forever....It's 31" wide x 4.15" thick at 147L but if you think that's still too small there's a brand NEW 10'x31"x4.2" (151.9L) due in next week...

I doubt that would have the volume that would be required for someone just under 6'and 90 kegs?

They both have loads of volume & stability & most guys 80-90kg ride the 8'11 Striker...They're super stable & a perfect all-rounder for what he & he has wife wants to do...Otherwise there's the 10'8 Hanalai which is perfect for what he wants at 160L
