hi guys, i'm looking at getting a 17foot glide, i'm looking at doing downwinders and some decent paddles for fitness etc, i am about 6'2 and 115kg, wondering your opinions of this board and if you think it would be suitable for someone of my size etc
thanks

Yes, very good choice. The SIC F18 is quicker, but also a little less stable.

17 Glide has nothing but positives - here's a few;
- carries great glide
- rudder lets you turn on a dime even with poor footwork, and keeps you on track in cross winds.
- Loads of volume which works well for heavier riders
- they are fantastic value on the second hand market at the moment
- very stable
- great for touring, training, down wind, exploring, etc...

A great board. I'll never sell mine.

And they're also good for catching a wave at Bells Beach..

In my very limited experience - yes it is a good board and ideal for what you intend to use it for - not great in the flat but amazing offshore and I've even fluked a handful of small waves on one that I borrowed a while back. They are going pretty cheap nowdays too if you can get onto a s/h one.

Anybody selling a 17 foot glide in perth? Would be very interested in buying it. Where i live, im directly in line with carnac island. Figure paddle out with the easterly behind you in the morning then flying back with the sea breeze in the arvo. Too scared to try it on the mana.

Good concept. But what if something went wrong... What if you were bobbing around on your own in the lulls, with a 2 white pointers having a sniff around? What if the offshore stayed around for longer and stronger than forecast?

Don't venture more than 500m offshore without support or a buddy. Things can turn dangerous when you least expect them to.

good points simondo, and thanks for your concern. I wouldnt be game enough to paddle to carnac unaccompanied. I would of course have the wife and assorted crew following in the boat. It would be nice to have a board that had enough glide to enable me to get to the island without needing to hang out on the boat more than im paddling.
