Yeeeeew. Such a sick board ... for all types of stuff.
I was thinking about you when I was trying to ride my Search, wondering how you managed to turn it that much. It is a fun board though.
I have never surfed the 12'r, but when I saw one, I noticed how much smaller it looked than my 14'r
More nose out there to throw around.
It took me a few years to actually surf the 14 because the few times I tried it.... I failed miserably. I simply couldn't turn it.
Last summer we had a looooog point-like sand bank and it was small, so I tried again.
The vid below is from that 1st successful session.
Three things I learned, that help a LOT
1- paddling out, I am much more comfortable if I stand a foot behind the handle.... it takes the nose out of the water and gives me some weight on the tail, which makes me more stable going over waves.
2 - It is very difficult to turn well, if you are going slow... I'd just fall over the side, so wait for some speed before turning.
3 - when on the wave, I stand way behind the handle (see pic)
My back foot is basically on the stomper when turning... and pretty far back in general.
This vid was on a tiny wave... literally one foot or less
It was the 1st session when I learned how to surf it.
Once you get back far enough, it is a whole different ballgame.
Pay attention to my foot placement... I added a pic of my 14, so you can clearly see where I stand when riding.
