Just picked up a 10'6 Laird Pearson Arrow in great nick from an old dude who paddled on the flat water with his dog. Surfed it in about 4 ft waves and had a blast. A shame they are not making them anymore.

Great nose rider, glides so good and bottom/top turns very easily. I know its an old board, and yes I have seen Laird's trick video many years ago but its not a board that is seen or mentioned much.

This one would be about 10 years old now but the surftech construction is bulletproof.

Anyone got one still and any comments?

Definitely a keeper IMO.

Wazza you have done well,you will get a lot of response to this thread.They are hard to find,I had 3 of them in the day,bomb proof,and I believe would hold there own today,with the current rebirth of 10 ft longboard sups.

Question is what did ya pay for it cause i know a few guys that would be pay as new for a 2nd one if they could get there hands on one. Got a buddy who spent 600 bucks on getting it re sprayed professionally and it looks amazing. So many good boards in the surftech range at that time, The Al "caddi" Merrick, the laguna bay's, gerry lopez model and these ones..

Big Mac shame, shame,you sold the prince!..I sold mine10 years ago and still regret it.and have been searching ever since,they are making them in the new construction now $2000+ but as we all know they are not the original surf tech construction.

Yes. Regrets ever since. I think I need to see a shrink. I have sold so many boards that I have really liked.

I have a 9'6 Robert August "What I Ride" longboard, circa 2000. Used it for years, but still in showroom condition. Amazing board! What do folks think about these old Surftech boards, any chance they will become collectors items in the future - worth hanging on to?

I paid $600 for the board. I sanded the scuff marks off the rails, got some paint matched up professionally, resprayed the rails then rail taped them to keep them is perfect condition.

Surfed it in some decent swell recently and the board is awesome. I also like the fact that it is a surftec construction so not worried about it snapping as much as my other sups.

A keeper for sure. Will post some pics on the weekend.

The original surftech boards are already collector items in the U S they pay good money for boards in good condition I have a Randy French H/P an a Taki In the pink nose rider they are keepers Do not ever sell your Robert August

You got the deal of the last 15 years in a laird 2nd hand. You could make 1200 to 1500 on that if you re sold it and it is in as good condition as you say it is. Throw a big 10 inch dolphin fin or cut away in that beast on some small waves and that board will come into its own.

Agree ,mine went it's best with a 10" GG 4 A

My neighbor has a 12' Laird for sale - located in Marblehead, MA USA though...

Thanks for the reassuring comments guys. I am having a ball camping up on the nose even in the sucky Burleigh rock break. Opens up a lot of things that you can do on a board that is pure fun and relaxing compared to my 8'0 SUP.
Such a nimble board for its size.
I'm running the standard fins stock Laird fins atm but am always open to swapping fins .....any suggestions?

For me the GG4A 10" I found the large base and flex from the tip,helped slow me down and ride it like a longboard,focusing on style,crosstepping,and nose riding,as I tend to over surf my longboard sups.

I'm on my second 10'6 Laird and was lucky to pick up one in good nick last year. I've also got the 11 ft and 12ft as well. Only had the 12ft out in the surf a couple of times and the 11 goes unreal.

Also have the surftech Gerry Lopez big darlin in the 10'6 x 29 set up as a quad . Another keeper.

Hi , just to add to this topic, i picked up a Jeff Timpone Southpoint on hard rubbish. Perhaps not as refined as the Laird, but in small waves the glide is great, manoverability is definitely from the very back. Construction is probably surftec, as tough as nails. Saved from land fill and enjoying each time I have a surf on it! Probably not one to hang on to, but I bet they were a launch pad for a lot of people.

Yeah the south point boards were surftech construction,but as I remember like all the Hawaiian boards at the time,including longboards were quite narrow,,all the Takayama models including sup were beyond me at the time ,I really struggled in the early days,,I would love to have a go on a tak 11 ft sup now though !

Sometimes the earlier boards were just made to be a classic shape and design that lasts the tide of change. Mine was bought to Australia in 2010 and sold on the Gold Coast.
I haven't ridden any of my other shorter sups since hopping on the 10'6 Laird.
Surftech is bulletproof and meant to last.

You hit the nail on the head. Scotty did sell the board at Greenline and knew the original owner as it arrived with a ding in the tail which was repaired before the sale. The light blue is slightly lighter. Scotty was saying he regrets selling all his Lairds as he owned the 10,10'6 and 11 ft .
Got to love the early SUP days.... so many different boards to choose from from the legends of surfing.

Yes ,I think the 11ft was his favourite,he is definitely an asset to surf fx a **** load of cred there !!!
