As a mountainbiker, windsurfer, kiteboarder, snowboarder, foilboarder, and even surfer, at somepoint someone has commented on my right to do the sport I want to and where I should be allowed to do it. Always pay attention to the concerns of lifeguards and public officials trying to placate those who feel entitled to sole use of a resource. Attend the meetings, educate the lifeguards of the rules of the road and "our group" who self patrols said area, post courtesey signs with rules, etc. And most of all, smile and say hi.

FYI, several of the commenters regarding Seal Beach state foiling is a threat to surfing schools/beginners. My favorite foiling area is so inundated with beginners and several surfing schools, that I can't foil there, let alone surf for fear of being run over.... how do I start a petition to ban surfing schools in public waters!

You find out if they're licensed or not. I wouldn't doubt that this issue is partially due to foiler's learning at that spot. I know several of the guys involved on the foiling side. Josh who runs thefoilshop in seal beach is doing his best to keep it civil and mediated, with lines of communication between all parties involved. School is back in next week and surf schools will be done, which should hopefully ease some pressure. In the meantime he's asked people not to foil there from 9-12 when the surf schools are in session.
