Don't get too excited... I'm only talking about giving you fellas an extra inch or two


However, thoughts on the following appreciated (ive not actually tried it yet):

-take foil apart and wrap mast end in clingfilm
-place into casting solution or maybe just push into play dough or something like that to make a mould
- poor epoxy/microbaloons into mould about an inch deep (or as deep as you dare)
- allow to set
- take epoxy spacer out and give a really good sand on the sides so its a loose fit inside the mast collar
- drill out holes where bolts will pass through.
- maybe buy some longer bolts if needed
-place epoxy spacer in collar and then fit mast to collar

hey presto a (slightly) extended mast.

Anybody got any thoughts whether this will work or is it madness? I cant see that an inch would cause much more in the way of stresses. Im only considering it because the naish foils have a deep collar and a fairly short mast (55cm). Yes you can buy a 70cm but that would be a bit long for me anyway.

A lot of effort for negligible gain. Stay with the 55 until you have the skills/desire to upgrade to 70

Just buy the 70cm and cut it back way simpler , cheaper & stronger....

Given the forces applied to the mast, this seems very dangerous.
Breaking a mast while foiling can also pierce your board, your body, and make you lose the foil...

cut it piros? Do the threads go all the way through the mast then?

No but the hole does so just get a M6 tap and cut a new thread . The whole process takes about 15 min . I've done it a couple of times. Cut mast with a drop saw to get it square , then just get a small shifter and slowly turn in the tap with lube . Keep it square and back off every couple of turns . I've cut them at 63cm & 65cm for a couple of mates.

I have also rewelded a mast we previously cut down , just put a bit of flat bar inside and still going strong today. It was on a kite foil so tons of stress.
