Been riding a 1210 Kujira for 3 sessions now. Before i even hit the water I took the plate apart, filled with thickened epoxy and reassembled. Did the same on the mast fuse and the wing fuse connections. I'm confident that this rig is as stiff as i'll be able to get it and any flex is in the aluminum extrusion itself. I'm 220 lbs, weak garbage waves, looping 5+ in shorebreak, .

Summary. The front wing is phenomenal. It somehow feels like less wing and more wing all at the same time in the best way possible. The Kujira is truly something special, and at $1440 US even if the mast and the rear wing end up in the bin the front wing was worth it. The mast is going to end up in the bin. The rear wing will self destruct in 5....4.....3......

In clean stuff the mast is fine, little delay in response on the twist in the yaw but servicable.

Choppy conditions were harder, pumping back through chop i'd hit a piece that would push one tip up and one down, bend the rig and all of a sudden my pumpy wasn't in column anymore and i'd have a stumble and catch myself and get back to pumping and dig out of a hole.

Today was really big, choppy, windslop. No real organization to the wave but stomach high square chop washing around. Rode a few and felt fine bouncing around like a ping pong ball. Towards the end i felt the mast bend on a bottom turn riding through some heaving square chop and the rest of the session fely funny. Checked the connections and no wiggles. Came back home and the straight edge revealed a 2mm bend over the length of the 75mm mast.

Never touched bottom (its been big since i got it!) with the wing, 3rd session.

The Takuma mast is only 15mm thick, at your weight I'd use a project cedrus mast or switch to Axis 19mm aluminium mast.

Pretty much everything about takuma other than the kujira wing itself is total trash.

I have absolutely no use for their tails, even though they force you to buy a new tail with a wing.

I don't like the stock angles between the mast and fuse, it seems like they just got it totally wrong compared to all the other foils out there.

I settled on a project Cedrus mast with an adapter to the Takuma fuselage and haven't looked back. Its great!

What tails are you using on the Kujira Jondrums? .

Yeah, i've got an axis 19mm mast that i run with my other custom fuse setup. I knew the takuma would be an issue so the same day i ordered the takuma i ordered an adapter to run the Takuma fuse with the Axis mast.

And in terms of potting the connections i've never ridden a foil that i didn't pot the connections on. Started doing it in the kite foil days years ago.

The Cedrus mast looks great but after the excelent WakeThief video (look him up, its fantastic) it looks like stiffness is about equivalent and weight savings would run about $1.00 per gram which is a little rich for me for what i consider the least weight critical part (mast moves the least of any part when pumping, probably more critical if your boosting and doingbackflips and ****)

I'm on the cedrus mast for strength not stiffness or mass. Bent the aluminum mast twice and have cracked other carbon masts. The stiffness of the takuma aluminum mast wasn't a problem for me and I don't particularly notice the difference in stiffness. @mcrt The KDMaui 13" tail is magical with the 980 and 1210

i weight 220 lbs. I notice the stiffness on everything i touch

I guess Project cedrus is the way to go with Takuma.

thanks for your input! I do have exactly the same problem with my Takuma setup. Loving the frontwing and disliking the rest.
A Takuma "plane" combined with an Axis mast could solve a lot of problems. Is this adapter you are speaking about somewhere available to buy? Could be a great help. Couldn?t find anything on the internet. Thank?s for your information!!

@caracol it is, unfortunately, not commercially available. I asked the guy who made it if he wanted to sell more and its not something he's super interested in. Maybe ask people who make custom foil parts.

You make a new doodad for the axis mast. Lining up the screw holes may be an issue. Project cedrus does a similar thing with his adapters.

My custom TakAxis rig. Modded fuse and custom doodad. Amazing job done by a machinist mate. The ride is super smooth with zero mast flex. He has done similar mods to allow me to run Gong and GoFoil wings with my Axis mast. More pics on Instagram @chrislucas735

I just put a new naish mast on and it's not bad. Little file work and some epoxy and it seems good

I think i bent the arc in the stabilizer, today i measured the AOI and theres nearly 8 deg between front and back. Nothing to do with the adaptor though.

15mm thick mast for a 225lbs rider all I can say as a HW rider no frigging way that's not happening.If your over 200lbs better go Axis 19mm only way to go and many wing options my 2cents

PSA.. Some takuma fuselages bend with regular use. Happened to me after about 5h of use on the 1210 (75kg rider), unstrapped prone surfing with pumping, not touching the bottom (also happened to a friend, same thing). Those fuselages seem to be lighter and have no serial number at the insertion of the mast. Using the warranty they kindly sent me a new fuselage with serial number that seem to hold on.

See photos below for comparison, bad fuselage on the left, good fuselage on the right. The unbent fuselage should be, laying down on a table, 0.95cm gap between the table and base of the front end (front wing insert), 0.3cm gap between the table and the back end (tail insert). The bent fuselage is currently 1.2cm at front and 0.4cm at back, roughly doing +1 or 2 degree on front and back wings.

Weights : Bad fuselage 710g, good fuselage 760g, 75 mast and base plate 1950g, 980 front wing 820g, 1210 front wing 890g, 178 tail 160g.Anyone tried some jumps on the takuma aluminum rig?
