I am thinking about giving surf foiliing a try. I have windfoiling for the past 3 years. Need something for the days that are too cold for windfoiling or flunky winds with mushy 2-3ft waves.

My budget is around $1000. I already have the moses 873 and 483. Looking to add a 70cm slingshot mast and adapter to use with the moses 710 surf fuse. For board size I am thinking of using this 32L, 4' 8"x 19.5" x 2.5". Maybe a steep learning carve(I'm 65kgs)?
would consider myself a good foiler with decent board control and pumping technique but haven't rode a board smaller then 5'10 105L without a sail on it. I imagine for light weights you dont want something too floaty as its harder to paddle through big waves?
Any thoughts if this setup would work well? it is a custom board setup for gofoil and yes its Tuttle.

A board in the 5'-6' range 35-40L will be much easier to learn on.
The RW board looks nice but you will need to run GoFoil as that's what it's designed around. It's definitely doable to learn on but progression will be slower then a larger board.

The Moses 873 looks like a great foil to learn prone on. I started on a similar size (Naish Jet 2000) with a 5'6" 40L Naish board.

The hardest part of prone foil is the take off. 2-3' mushy waves will be great to learn this skill on.

at your weight this board is fine. Seeing the shape of the nose it's probably going to ride about equivalent to a 5'2" regular shaped board. You can run any board with any foil you just have to be willing to shim the rear wing and it sounds like you know how to do that well enough to say "more lift wing down less lift wing up"

My real concern would be the fit and reliability of that slingshot Tuttle connection. At the minimum be prepared to drill and tap the top to match the gofoil bolts. Worst case it doesn't fit right. That slingshot Tuttle piece is made for windsurfing and the gofoil Tuttle is kind of it's own thing so there's gonna be some fit issues.

Also between the surf fuse, the slingshot stuff you could just buy a 24" gofoil and a beginner wing (Maliko or iwa are a dime a dozen with a 24 mast) that's going to be lighter and more reliable. 2 setups is better long term so your not going canibalizing your windfoil gear every time you surf and I can't imagine there's much olvelap in the gear to begin with

Good points. So the holes on a slingshot mast line up slighty differently then the holes on a gofoil mast as they go stright up and down, not on a angle. I once had a guy with a gofoil buy my JP foil board off me since I already drilled out the holes for m10 for my slingshot mast his mast was able to fit with the holes lined up. He just needed bigger washers and sanded the tuttle head a bit.

I dont know much about gofoil but hear there wings work well for surfing. I am open to the idea of buying a gofoil. It probably wouldn't cost much more as there are some used setups for around 800cad. What wings should I be looking at for starters, I dont see much info about wing sizes(cm2) ?
What would the best option be out of these wings?

I'd just do the iwa to get started, iwa complete with a 24 in mast should be $400-600. If it clicks and you like it then re evaluate. Tons of the gofoil Tuttle stuff available

Use what you got with a sub 75 mast.

Just walk thru chest deep water.

Have you ever surfed before CAN17? IF You never surfed before, that will be a steep learning to go with a 32L. Are you a swimmer...that could help a bit.

Never surfed before. I figure for the price of a nice surfboard I could buy decent prone setup and also use it for wake foiliing. We dont get huge overhead waves as often here as the oceans so foiling will be the better choice imo. For sure will be a steep learning curve. I'm a pretty good swimmer, used to teach swimming/former lifeguard. Not overweight, able to paddle with good sized mitts on me if that is what your referring to?

Got a mate here who learned to prone foil and never surfed before.Started on a 5'6 board then got a 4'6 after 12 months. It definitely was a steep learning curve, the first 12 months he hardly rode a wave ,many times he would get nothing in a whole session or just a few meter ride. He foiled behind a boat quiet well , but learning the whole surfing thing was a huge challenge.I didn't think he was ever going to get there and he almost gave up at one point.You could tow him onto a wave with a boat and he could ride it , but the whole selecting waves\paddling/ getting up was overwhelming. I would have given up after so many attempts,but to his credit after 2 years he's up and running now.

Maybe also get yourself a big ass foam long board. Run your tow foiling behind a boat, with some foamy surf practise then put it all together. May speed up the process.

Sitting, Pop up and even paddling a prone board will be a lot of pain for sure. I wonder if you should not just start with your current 5'10 100L wingboard. I understand that the width of the board will make it hard to paddle? But at least it will glide fast? Anyone tried that route?Some are super athletic and catch anything in a month or two, but if you are a "mortel" maybe Sup Foiling could be another option to have fun in waves?

Well too late late now. I think my windfoil board wouldn't work that well because it is so chubby and actually doesn't glide that well. I have 4 footstraps on it that take up half the board dont really want to be removing those every time to prone.

Will hopefully take her on a maiden voyage tomorrow. Although conditions look a bit big for a first ever prone session(40kt+ winds 6-10ft lake waves). Will practice the pop up technique on the smaller butter smooth waves by the pier.

Also have the much smaller thicker kai wing, maybe start with that? I have a feeling the lift will be insane from the bigger waves on the p180.

Yes will try to get a few session on a freinds board to help my pop ups.
