Yes I agree, the connection with the wave is surfing...thats what we do.
With foiling, it's a feeling like flying, it's literaly is a form of aviation in a very narrow band of water, you don't feel the surface, but rather what a dolphin feels when it rides a wave from below, it's a very powerfull lifting force even on quite small waves.
One of the first things you notice when foiling is the lack of spray when you carve a turn, the "G" force from the turn is there....but silence & no spray....it's fun after years of bashing around the place on the surface chop sending buckets...it takes a while to get used to.
Certainly a challenge
