Stripped a thread in my aluminum fuselage

I over tensioned one of the M6 screws that attaches the rear wing to my Axis fuselage and damaged the thread.
For now I am using a 4 mm longer screw but this is not going to last...
I have several options
- drill all the way and make it M6 all the way
- Put in a Helicoil, not sure if they are going to rust
- Make it M8
-get the hole filled up by a welder and make it M6 again
-switch brand but can't afford that and I really like my Axis gear

I hate aluminium!!!

Heli coil is the way to go, they are stainless steel

I am not sure the ones I have are stainless, I can pick them up with a magnet.....

Stainless steel will atract a magnet but not as strong as mild steel will.

You dont want stainless and aluminuim together thats a problem.

If this can get you at least 3 full turns of good new threads I'd do this one.

(1st) if it doesn't turn out you can hallways do any of the other options later.

I wish they came with 8mm.

First choice is how much good thread will you have if tapped all the way through. If you will have 6mm of good thread, then do that, and don't be a dumb ass and over tighten it again. There...I said it.

Last choice, change to M8. They should have been M8 anyway.

Just drill through and run a M6 tap through , takes 5 minutes and easy peasey. You can also just try putting in the M6 tap now you might find it's only the top threads . I have done this alot on my NP gear so its works . Don't go to M8 the heads are too big for the wing , they will sit up. Re the helicoils not a fan either , dissimilar metals. Re the magnet it will still pick up 304 (A2) S/Steel but won't pick up 316 (A4) S/Steel.

If all else fails just tack/weld the hole and re tap , it wont even burn the anodising , just needs one touch with a Tig torch to fill the hole, again really quick job.
