I've made the jump from SUP- ben mostly prone foiling for a few months now. My wave count is definitely down but- I have only been on the SUP 2x since the transition as I am obsessed with getting better on the prone- and the speed. Sooooo much fun.

One of the attractions of going prone is obvious- smaller, lighter swing weight shorter board that disappears once up on foil. And- pumping. I haven't spent any sessions solely concentrating on pumping yet- but am about to start doing that being somewhat comfortable w/ catching waves, the popup and turns. Plenty of room for improvement in all areas but.......... like anyone who sees foiling- I want to do less paddling- more pumping... air-time, expand the playing field- open things up, realize the dream by pumping/linking up multiple waves!

At this point pumping- I am limited to carrying through soft or super fat sections, pumping down the line. Cutting out of a wave and out the back- mostly- I go about 40-50 ft tops and crap out. Too often, I'll clip the top of the wave cutting out. Thus far, I've pulled off only a few 2:1s. Not through skill but because I lucked out, everything aligned and I could carry speed off a wave and link up with the next which was down the line and directly behind the 1st wave being short period surf.

I am 90kg on Axis gear, mostly the 900 which I know in the right hands pumps a dream (I own a 750 as well for bigger days) That said- wondering if I'd be better served buying a 820 or 920 to get pumping down?

I know like anything- it's mostly about paying dues with water-time but... any advice appreciated for gear technique etc. I am frothing to get my pump game going. Make things worse- I'm out of the water a few weeks w/ an injury and after 2 days- already losing my mind.

Best tip I can give is get off the wave early when you are accelerating not decelerating. The 900 will easily carry you through to long links ups if you have the initial speed. That's the best way to learn . Once you go too slow on the 900 it just drops and only a very experienced pumper can keep it up. Just focus on the early get off for now the rest will follow it's just so much easier to pump with speed.

I don't think the 8 or 920 would be better for pumping than your 90 - but the 101 is from what I have read.

Like Piros said, get off early with speed & I may I add - stay as high as possible.

Thanks guys. Yeah.... as I suspected. It's tempting to think there is a magic pill in changing gear- but I've got a solid setup. As with most things- time spent developing skill wins the day. No prob- loving the process.

For sure when I'm on a wave with speed the 90 pumps completely different- super solid to push off of and projects forward like crazy. When I've been cutting out- it's usually w/ pumping as an afterthought as the wave dies. Too little speed and I feel like I have to be careful and milk it along with shorter, more gentle pumps or I'll just push the wing through/it drops.

I think that's the call- paddling out for my next session with the goal to specifically work on pumping- to have in mind before I take off to drop in and right back out as soon as I have speed. Probably out of the water at least a week- can't wait to focus on that. Appreciate the feedback.

At 90kg, I think the 900 might be a little small at least on samll wave. The 82 or 92 would feel mcuh slower but maybe a good transition to learn how to pump back out. Pretty sure you can find a cheap used one.

Or if you can get the new 101 which is way easier for pumping than the 900, more glide/lift at low speed.

Maybe kooky but in our 4 to 6 month off season we are wake foiling with a focus on training goals. One of them is pumping, let go of the role, ride the wake a bit then veer off and see how long you an go. We didn't get e ough attempts to make head way, but this summer hopefully

I've no doubt getting reps pumping behind a boat could be a great way to get heaps of airtime in one go out and accelerate progress.

Going smaller rear (400-370), short or ultra short fuselage paired with the 1000,92,102 will help you pump way better with more ease. I'm waiting on my 101 wing so I can't comment on that yet.

The 1010 can fly a bit slower. I haven't ridden Axis but I've been out with guys that ride 900, 1000 and had the proto 1010. That's what they tell me...easier to loiter when trying to connect DW lumps, easier to takeoff.

The GL210 (which I do ride) is like an easygoing 1000, . I rate it really high. It's definitely fast, It can happily go fairly slow and I've found it to be pumping monster. If I'm out with guys on 900\1000's we are all having a great time....looks like the 900 is slightly less forgiving though.

I do have access to a 1000. I tried it on a SUP one time and it cruised w/ ease on next to nothing. Never tried it on my prone- maybe I'll give that a go. I also have an ultra-short fuse on the way.

I am on the standard fuselage and 440 rear until now but I am waiting for the new lighter short and ultrashort fuse and the 400 and 370 rear...
What length mast would be best for pumping?

Well, 1010 is cheaper....by a fair bit.

210 is only 970mm span, so I'd say it's better to surf than the 1010.
Most Axis guys here ride the 900 in surf and I can see why...it's a little more nimble than the 210. 210 seems more forgiving. I do like surfing my 210, but it prefers open long waves, not exactly a pocket destroyer...pocket destruction notwithstanding, it's the only wing I ever ride now, I just change stabs for sh1ts and gigs. I would love to hit a 180 though.

The 240 is a lot bigger in area, bigger span and chord. I've heard it's a bit slower and lumbering...maybe brining back some M200 memories....

Yes price is very important , only if the GL210 is much better I would consider it...

The 900 is too small for me I am on a sup, I weigh 190.

I just hope the 1010 will be forgiving like the GL210...

No, the 101 is flatter and more surface, combined with the flat stab it makes way easier to pump than 900 and 1000, more glide between pump which means you can compet with teenager cardio.

No idea, I have never tried a GL.

It is always a balance between a nice easy pumping wing and a surf wing. I like the hight aspect because I like to connect mutiple waves and I ride mostly very mushy, slow wave so I don't mind sacrifying some turning ability.

The 101 has an undercambered or scooped out lower surface too, aiding low speed performance.
