Knew my Hamboard had Originals trucks on it, didn't realize they made entire boards.
Don't know quite why I started searching, but when Santa didn't bring what I wanted, decided to treat myself.
Packages arrived at my office this morning.

Went for the "cruising and carving" options.
Liked the look of Pintail shapes.


Pintail 40 and Pintail 46.


Boards seem well made, well finished.
40 has S8 trucks, Abec 11 Retro zig zag wheels.
46 has S10 trucks, Abed 11 Retro Freeride wheels.










Unfortunately I had a sun spot thing cut off my calf this morning, not meant to strain the stiches, so not meant to do anything for 2 weeks.
I can't see myself waiting that long.

US, but not that expensive, particularly when I compare it to what it cost to get the Hamboards in.

thanks, there's a lot of 46" out there and some cheap and some not too cheap. Let us know how it rolls as I'm looking at 46"+ boards? The hamboards are nice though gee$$.

Hamboards have an Australian distributer in QLD - google Hamboards Australia or something.

Lots of fun, and you feel like less of a dick on the smaller board than the 6'6" Classic.
According to my friends, I still look like a dick on the biscuit.

Off topic a bit, and in advance, no affiliation to Hamboards apart from as a paying customer.
I was looking at stuff on the internet Saturday night, probably slightly drunk, browsed the Hamboards site as I do, and decided I needed a Biscuit - small board, highly portable, less publically daunting than the Classic.
Aware of the cost, decided why not?
Came to shipping, and only United States was available.
Not good, fired off an email to Pete Hamborg, whose email I still have from the protracted purchase and shipping dramas of the Classics last year.
Probably had another beer, got thinking they wouldn't have stopped shipping overseas, searched Hamboards International or Australia, or something, and found they have an Australian on line shop.
Prices not ridiculous, and got 25% discount for no reason.
Colours on the boards seem more limited than before, most just in natural bamboo, a rather clever looking paddle that was on the US site not listed.
As they were much cheaper than I expected, ordered two Biscuits, as I said 25% off and free shipping.
Sent off another email to Pete, have not had a reply yet whereas in the past he would get back to me.
Unsure as to what would happen next, got a confirmation of the order Monday, then notice that they had shipped. Not sure from where, or how long it would take.
They arrived today, 4 days from order with one of those days Sunday.




They are better focussed than that.
Previous boards were individually signed and numbered by Pete, with your name on them if you wanted.


These are still signed, but it's printed on, and the logos that were previously stickers are part of the paint too.


Quality seems good, but the country of manufacture, previously "up the road" in California is now not shown, with "Designed in Huntington Beach by the Hamborg Family" prominent.
Wheels are Hamboard branded, trucks seem non committal but I'm far from an expert in these things.




Finish is excellent, quality seems good, initial ride on the floorboards seemed dangerous.
Will have a ride in the morning and report.
Is this a good thing I ask?
Certainly the price and shipping time, ease of purchase etc. is way improved from before.
But I liked the idea of Pete receiving the order, going in to work, selecting a deck, signing it, putting the trucks on and packaging it up, each one individual.
Is it now better?
I don't know. It's more efficient, and less risky, and should sell more boards, if they don't keep it secret as it currently seems to be.
But I'm glad I have the old maximum hassle / ridiculously expensive / email from Pete / ordered off the record / delayed in transit / held up in customs / lost in shipping / held to ransom by UPS / finally arrived with my name on it Classic.

Update : Ride report.
Great fun, manoeuvrable portable, carve well great for a FOB like me.
I keep one in the Kombi at all times, pull it out for a 1 minute skate in a car park when no one's looking.
23 year old daughter thinks I'm really cool.
19 year old daughter thinks I'm an embarrassment.
But she takes after her mother.

I like all hamboards if could.
I have a SantaCruz 43" with very stiff deck and tracks and I think its more downhill design than street board. The hamboards looks like a good fun street board for carving and pumping etc. The biscuit is good value but is the length long enough stance for us master's.

I find the Biscuit plenty big enough.
Maybe I have a fairly narrow skate stance - I'm not very good at it.

You could easily stretch it out a bit - the board is very much a wheel at each end.

Got out on the Pintail 43 this morning, crappy, windy Melbourne day.
43 you ask? You had 46" and 40"?
Finding the thing cut off my leg was a Melanoma, and being told I have to go back for follow up additional flesh removal changed my purchasing priorities.
I like the outline.


Cannot fault the build quality, Will from Original has been great to deal with.
Love the art on the bottom too.


Except I scratched it just below the Kombi, trying to hide boards in the back of my Kombi from The Wife One.
After exchanging messages with Zuesman, measured my landpaddle.
At 6'5", it's probably way too long even when I am paddling from a first floor balcony. I'm 5'10" from memory.
On this it felt way, way too long.


Skated a standard route I do on shared bike paths.
This one has white springs fitted, the Classic lurking in the Kombi has red.
I've forgotten which order of stiffness the springs go in white / red / black, but this felt way too stiff.
Very little flex in the board too, I didn't get swoopy carves happening, but the smaller wheels coped with stray stones and concrete joins OK. Don't know whether to loosen the trucks, or change springs - I have several of each.
When speccing the Originals, I think I went for heavier springs on each order, but they assemble each board to order, and Will shipped the standard springs with the board. Maybe I just need to go harder.
Overall, too stiff, but felt fast, and less missile like than the Classic.
Certainly no real negatives, and I had great fun on a morning where the weather was way worse than it looks from the photos.
Tomorrow 2" off the landpaddle as a first step - I've forgotten how I decided on the length when I got it - probably just pushed the handle in and went for it.

nice board and have you try without the paddle. Me think anything 46+ you'll need a paddle.

I do a bit without the paddle, pushing in between paddling, but I find my 56 year old balance is better suited to the paddle, and my left calf is in constant danger when pushing.
Planning to do more standard skating to try and get the balance better.

Here is my ride with original trucks. Honey 38" of deliciousness rolling on metro motion wheels.

Nozza I was not trying to hurt your feelings about the hamboard description, it is how they felt when i rode one compared to a standard skater.

I even struggle pushing with my honey set up as the original trucks use a big riser pad. So I find it perfect with the stick.

I have a fair bit if original kit if anyine does struggle for bits and pieces .

I started off on the apex 37 which is a awesome deck, but i prefer the look and feel of my honey

Pintail too stiff, spring change.
My first floor balcony has red springs, bothered to check, black are standard, then red, then white.
Because I'm fat, I specced the Originals with "Spring upgrade" to white springs.
Too much.
I also need to shorten my landpaddle.
Bought them both in after work.


Untaped the handle on the landpaddle, that looked way too hard.
Got my rusty allen key set out, undid the front (maybe) trucks.
I have no idea about this, never had skateboards as a kid, waiting for the spring to fly out.
Bolt came out, but the trucks seemed pretty happy to stay together.


Wobbled, pulled, wedged a screwdriver in, discovered they slide out sideways.


Springs aren't under tension, easy to change.
Thought I might as well get as much difference as possible, put blacks in.
Easy.


The Originals system looks really good at this stage, not sure you could change a board with normal trucks this easily.
Test skate in the car park felt much better.
I might need to get fatter to get some flex in the deck.
The landpaddle has to wait, The Wife One expecting me home.
Weather looking more skate than paddle tomorrow, I'll try choke gripping the paddle if I have to.

Tried the re sprung Pintail this morning.
Instead of using the streetsweeper, got my Braapstik paddle out.
Set it to eye level or thereabouts.

Board was way better with softer springs, easier to carve.
Stick a much better length, probably too long still.


But I struggled to get the tip to grip.
I was using it with the open side of the "hook" facing forwards.
Tried turning it around, seemed better.


This is the rubber tip.


Looked at my technique a bit.
Got in to a bit of a crouch, concentrated on using core and legs rather than arms so much.
Got going well enough to do two laps of my course, good workout but tip still slipping, particularly uphill.
I've since looked at some videos on the Braapstik site, and they seem noncommittal about which way it goes, if anything the way I had it first.
They also seem to be swooping and carving down inclines and not really using the stick much at all.
Will see if I am brave enough to shorten my Streetsweeper that much.
